Your thoughts on this ticket?

So here's what happened

I was driving straight down a road and planning to make a right at the next lights.
Right before I reach the intersection, the lights turn yellow. It was one of those yellows that if you were driving straight, you would be able to make it through with no problem. So it's yellow and I've already in the motion of turning right.
From the oncoming side, there was a car turning left. When it saw the yellow, it started turning too. We were both turning onto a 2-lane street, but the way the other car was turning, it looked like it might swerve into my lane.
So I pause a little to make sure we wont' hit and then completed the turn and kept driving. A minute later I got pulled over and the officer gave me a ticket for failing to stop at the red light....WHAT?

I'm pretty sure I didn't do anything wrong. The office said that he observed that when the light was red, I was behind the line so I should have stopped completely before making the turn. But I saw the light was yellow and I was already about to turn.

What do you guys think? I'm ready to contest this...180 fine and 3 points...

seems like you made the turn without an incident so why get jacked up for it?

If you had time to slow down to let them ahead to avoid a collision then you had time to make the stop....

The thing is...I didn't slow down to let them ahead. I slowed down to make sure they were turning into their own lane. The first car turning left ended up side by side with me after we turned.

then you were both kinda in the wrong, cop could only pick on one of you and you were probably the younger of the two.....still sux but you were on the losing end of a 50/50 proposition...

Perhaps the car turning left was simply clearing the intersection when the light turned
The cop may very well have saw it that way.

You could try to fight it, but I wouldn't hold much hope of winning.

Yellow light means stop UNLESS unsafe to do so. If you had time to slow down to allow this car to clear, you had time to stop. The officer was in position to see you and the stop line and the fact if you stopped or not. If you were entering the intersection and there was already a vehicle coming, it means stop, not continue on slowly until the vehicle clears. You can try fighting it but chances are better than the average bear that you will not get anywhere with it. It is your right to fight the ticket, it is also the judges right to uphold it.

It's already been said. You could of stopped, so you should have stopped. Pay the ticket and save the court some hassle for no reason.

Later,
Brad

Cop never shows up unless you request it.

Go challenge it and negotiate with the prosecutor, but don't tell her the excuse you told us or she will tell you to not waste her time.

Admit guilty and negotiate, usually they knock it down to like $110 and no points, maybe less money if you kiss ***.
