Xmas not the same...

I also fond that people dont appreciate gifts anymore...
I bought gifts for people last year, decent gifts, and I know for an absolute fact that most of them wound up sitting on a shelf collecting dust..What was the point?
I will admit I'm guilty of doing the same thing, but now that I look at it, I'd rather now just share a solid hand shake or a hug with a good friend and wish each other Merry Christmas...It means alot more to me than any material items.
Now that I look at it,if my friendship isnt enough, well, sorry, but thats about the best thing I can give..
My 2 extra pesos

Not a religious fella at all, so it would be kinda hypocritical to celebrate. So...no gifts for me, no gifts from me. I just head back to Mtl. for a couple of days to hang with old friends...and spend a couple of hours with the family as well I guess.
I think I really soured on the whole deal after working in a mall for 6 years and watching how the great herd of sheep called the public are completely controlled by the money consuming machine that is Corporate America. It's crazy to watch these normally bitter, unhappy, unspending people be manipulated into feeling happy and generous and climbing over each other to throw their money at whoever will take it because you can't put a price on your loved ones!
Don't get me wrong, I do appreciate all the hard work the Machine has put into this. It usually ends up being between 9 and 12 days off for me. Keep up the good work .

I like Christmas time with my family. (basicly only 4-5 of us now, used to be 15+....long family drama arguments! ) anyhow.. it is a good uplifting time of year, and weather i recieve a pot of gold, or only a can of soup, it doesn't matter. The getting part for me was when i was a child. Those are the memories i loved so much, and will never forget.
Now i love to enjoy the company of my family and the only good holiday present i will ask for is good health, and happiness for all!

I agree with everyone... and nothing cheeses me off more then having to do some legitimate shopping and being held up by hoards of people..
2000 people inside a walmart, all with shopping carts and screaming children you must navigate through... line apon line at the checkout... and I'll I need is some freeking contact solution....

I have fond memories of Christmas from when I was a child. Unfortunately the sublime ignorance of childhood is a fleeting shield against the reality of consumerism.
I'm more Taoist/Panthiest than anything else, so Christmas is simply another day. No decorations, lights, Pegan trees, etc. I'm seriously considering buying a Festivus pole for my living room simply because conceptually it's a way for me to hold on to the happiness that I used to derive from this season as a child without the religous connotations associated - and it's a phallic symbol. George's dad was on to something.

you'd think that most people who hate the atmosphere of shopping carts and screaming brats in walmart who have children of their own and do the same thing would learn to leave them at home, now if everyone did that I dont think the malls would be as crazy, where as you dont have 50 thousand little brats running and screaming saying i want this i want that. Find a babysitter dont bring them with you.
In most cases ppl who bring their kids also end up paying less for they're distracted and finally get sick of telling their child no so it benefits them to some extent too lol
Moral of this story - Buy your christmas presents before the season starts. You know it's gonna be crazy in December Hard to forget that some retailers force you into December however with having something you want released in December, grrrrrr.. lol
