Question white headlight bulbs - anything i need to know?

Hey people

My bro wants some of those white headlight bulbs for his 95 tahoe. Can you just buy the bulbs alone? Or do you essentially need to get a whole new headlight assembly? Or how does that work, i thought maybe you needed a new assembly all together, but he says otherwise.

What can you folks tell me about it all?

Go to Canadaian Tire and buy some of the Silverhawk bulbs, I like them just as much as the whites. 2 bulbs are like $50 or something.

does he want just white headlights, or bright headlights?

option 1: white or "xenon" headlights 2500 kelvin, usually if you go with Eurolite or some of the other more popular brands (less expensive) they will burn out in a year or less.

option 2: PIAA 4000 kelvin, quite a bit more expensive, but worth every dime. i ran a set for almost 2 years with no problems. quite bright.

option 3: HID 6000 kelvin, this is what science says is the brightness of the sun. same lights you will see on BMW and Mercedes cars. actually look purple from a distance. most of your local specialty shops will have access to them. probably gonna run you about $600 depending on the car.

the stock headlights on your average car from factory are 1600 kelvin.

The factory headlights in my car are notoriously weak so I replaced them with Hyperwhite's from Eurolite. They cost $35 at most stores and come with a one year warranty although mine have been going strong for over three years and 60,000km now.
Just as good as the Silvania Silverstars only cheaper.

Yes they're a major improvement. Literally a night and day difference.

Exclamation

thanks for the help people. I finally picked up some today. Got a lecture from some old guy in the process. He was pretty ademate about the fact that he saw them testing these on teh speed channel and that there's absolutely no difference between silverstars or similar and stock stuff.

So i'm like thats cool thats your opinion, i'm sure i could find 6 of one half a dozen of the other. And he's like no...that doesn't matter there's no difference!!! So i'm like alright cool, and i just kinda go about grabbing them anyways and now he's almost getting mad at me asking why i'm gonna buy em after he just told me there's no difference. So i'm like well, i just spoke with 6 car enthusiasts (you people) and they seemed to think there was a difference, so i'm gonna go with their word over your likely misunderstanding of what was said on the speed channel.

At this point i thought this 60 year old man was going to fight me. He continued and was starting to say something more....when i finally had the correct bulbs in my hand and just walked away.

Who woulda known buying bulbs like this was such a process - sheesh.

Hmm how do i know that if i push submit reply again to see if the website is back up, i'm gonna end up making this post like 5 times.

sorry to bring this up again

I ended up pickin up some nighthawks 9006. 3 people there seemed to prefer them to the silverstar's. Bro thru em in and noticed no change. Now do these night hawk's suck?

or

is it the fact that the vehicle is like 10 years old (95) and his headlights are probably all scratched up and yellow and that, there is nothing that'll help other than new housings overall??

Same thing happened in my car.
I switched the stock headlights with Sylvania Silverstars and noticed absolutely no difference.
