Sygate for firewall. It's free for personal use. AVG and Trendmicro online are decent and free too. Use Firefox as an IE alternative for minimal spyware and improved performance.

I use antivir it is excellent

With the amount of open source software available there is no need to pay for most software (games excluded)

I only use Xp firewall and Mcafee Enterprise 7.0 no issues at all....

Yeah paying for anti-virus doesn't seem worth it at this point. Maybe in a few years.

btw. XP's firewall is very basic. I would get something like Zone Alarm or Sygate instead of using XP's firewall. It's just really basic and well I wouldn't trust it.

Sygate monitors both incoming and outgoing. As Cereal has noted, XP only does incoming....very basic indeed.
