Towing + Storage = $1200+?!

As you guys know, my car was in an accident recently. Well, now I'm facing problems with the towing company/body shop that actually took my vehicle from the scene of the accident. I told the towing company to deliver the car to Whiteoak Ford, but once the tow truck guy arrived there, he said that the place didn't have a body shop.

He recommended another place, and took the vehicle there - this was around 12am on Saturday night. Well, the next day (Sunday) I went to the body shop where he apparently delivered the car. The body shop said that they couldn't find the vehicle on the lot. I later found out that the vehicle was delivered on Monday since the towing guy thought the body shop would be closed Sunday.

When I called the body shop today, they stated that I have a bill of more than $1200 for towing, storage and estimates of damage (not including the costs of repairs). How on earth is this possible?! They said they will wave the fees if I get my repairs done through them, but my insurance company wants the vehicle removed from there.

What am I to do?

Let the insurance company deal with it.

Isn't there rule/law about not having to pay for stuff unless you request it?
It sounds fishy.

Typical storages fees are about 50$ per day and towing is about 50$ for the hook up and X.xx per KM.

Whats this estimates of damage you speak of?
Your insurance comapny is your friend as they don't want to have to pay more than they have too. They will help you, if you have a good one.

Clearly a useless post. Why even waste the guys time?

Anyways, sounds like you need to start talking to the insurance people and see what they can do for you.

A similar situation was a buddy of mine smashed his 240, it was towed to a local tow truck / body shop. Long story short, my buddy shows up and his cars in a cube. They compacted it, sold the rims and stereo and charged him for towing and storage as well.
The car was NOT a write off, maybe $4000 on a mint modded 240. No insurance was involved or police....

He sucked it up and walked away.. *crying*... I hope you get some stuff resolved, but id start making calls.

Let the insurance company deal with it.

About a year ago one of my co-workers got rear ended by a dump truck. He doesn't know a lot about cars nor does he know anything about towing/insurance.

The cop and the towing company took his brand new car, with 6,000kms on it and sent it off to a shop.

He went home in a taxi.

3 days later the insurance company calls and claims the vehicle has to be written off because the damage is in the mid 20s.

We call the insurance company and tell them my co-worker was beside himself at the time of the accident.

The insurance company tells us to take a hike, they're going to write off the car.

We called the dealer where he bought the car (6k kms ago) and explain them the situation.

The dealer sends one of their own tow trucks to get the car from the other shop and bills the insurance company for the towing charge and storage fee. They also submitted a quote for much lower and did the job.

Moral of the story? Get a hold of Whiteoak, chances are they have a Preferred Body Shop. Talk to the body shop and explain them the situation, see what they can do for you. If you can't get anywhere with Whiteoak, try Dixie or Palladini.

1. Grow up?
2. I talked to insurance, told them the situation. They stated that the insurance company will take care of the costs and the situation with the towing/body shop. Their headquarters will contact me tomorrow apparently. I am assuming that the estimate the body shop gave me for repairs amounting to roughly $8,000 is also overpriced. In my opinion, the cost of repairs should not exceed $4,000 - so the deductible should be affordable by myself.

Lets see how things turn out.

LOL well for future note of mine and to anyone reading

Tell the Effing Vultures go pick off some other idiot any Ford dealer will take the car and if they don;t have a body shop they will transport it TO a Place that has one free of charge... there is an epidemic of these vulture tow truck drivers that will give you some bulls*** excuse to take it to there shop.. then they tag you the inflated fees aswell as make a lovely $200-$400 commission and there most body shops will use scrap yard parts my mother had an accident insurance told us to take it to our Insurance bodyshop and next morning we find out they took it to theres LOL insurance flipped out phoned the police, police marked the vehicle stolen from the scene which as a matter of fact he picked up from the center median and took it away before they survey'd the damage to the divider and lamp post..

all and all the tow truck driver was charged with Grand theft, and Fraud being we ordered him on the police report to deliver it to the Insurance companies body shop..

they also tried to nail us with a estimate charge

breakdown as follows for a moderate damaged 1986 Honda Prelude

Replace Fender
Replace Bumper
Bumper Insert,
headlight casing with lift motor
rim
tire
tie rod
lower & upper ball joint
Lower A frame
mirror
Driveshaft
$ 6370 total

our insurance company tallied the estimate at $3860

When I had my accident I actually caused more damage forcing the car to drive to the side of the road to wait for the Tow truck I called, 3 Chasers (Morons who rush to the scene to ****** the car and make profit) tried hard to tell the cop I can;t leave my car on a main road I told the cop ticket me all you want they can;t have it and they got red in the face my driver arrived and all hell broke loose LOL

I will NEVER let the police force me to get my car towed by a company I don;t trust and thats basically ALL of them Except 2

so listen up you have the RIGHT to choose your tow truck company and your insurance will pay them never let a driver make decisions on what body shop to go to because there being paid under the table to do this

so if theres any drivers who don;t like this they can go bug granny because your jig is up

also heres the breakdown ( this is Current capped prices for the Municipality of toronto/etobicoke)
towing
$45 to hook up + $2.00/2.50 a Kilometer if they say more tell them shove it up there butt

Storage CANNOT exceed in the City of toronto/mississauga/GTA/Halton by a Municipal law $20 A DAY flat anymore your being hosed

the only time the towing rate may change is when the vehicle is extra low, extra heavy or long and may need a specialized truck

Well, just to give you guys an update - insurance denied my claim today!
I can't believe I am stuck with $8,000+ damages plus whatever towing/storage costs that may have accumulated by now.

Do you have full coverage or just basic?

Was it your fault?

If you said full or answered no, then I suggest you get a lawyer now before you do anything.
