#21
I've been using Dell for an number of years. My wife has one, the boys sare one and during the past holiday season I purchased my lap top from them. ( it was the one used in Calgary during that test and tune ). So far had no real problems. The warenty when needed was great! We did upgrade my wifes some time ago with no problem.
I do recomend them.

If only because of the very limited warranty involved.
Go with a company that can get your PC repaired ASAP because every minute of downtime is a dollar wasted.

Dell is definatly the way to go for business..
As far as hooking them up together, if you have 2 in the shop and plan to have internet access, you can buy a 4 port router for $35 to 40 Dollars.
Now if you have a 3rd machine at home VPN can be a real pain to get both locations connected.
Easiest way to do it.......
You will need windows XP Professional on all three machines perferable...
For your work interent, go with an account/isp that allows you to have a Static IP, where it is always the same IP Address. Enable the remote administration so you can connect to it from your home internet account.
At home you can go for the regular internet account, regardless of the connection (dsl/cable/dialup) and just use the option to connect to a remote computer.. enter in the IP address.. your user name and password, and its similar to you sitting in front of your deak at work.
The nice thing about this setup is if you decide to go out of town for a week/weekend, all you need is internet access to access your computer / check your email / sales etc etc..

When I was working with HydroOne, all they used were dell PC's. IT preferred to work with them over the rest of platforms. At home we use Dell as well (I have personally have a Dimension 8300 and I am happy with it).

well business is a completly different thing. for a business yes get a machine that is fully sercived and such . but for home use save a bit of money and build yourself a system. like i sjtu priced out a killer system for a bit under 1400 . it had
Athlon 64+ 3000
name brand mobo ( cant remeber off hand )
1 gig of ddr
80 gig hard drive
16x dvd burner
geforce 6600 GT
17 " LG flatron CRT monitor
with speakers and keyboard and mouse.
i mean thats a mean gaminging machine for somethign like that at dell your looking at spending close to 1600 + taxes..

If i was getting another home PC, i'd still build my own probably. Cause i like using my own parts and what not. And there's no limitations what so ever between brand and that sorta thing. Warranty isn't a big deal then, any part is pretty cheap and can be replaced fairly easily.
On the other hand, if i was looking for a laptop where a warranty is necessary, you can't go wrong. Dunno if i mentioned it or not, but they're coming out with a neat lile laptop weigh'n in at 2.4lbs or something it's intense.
