Thoughts on a Chevy Cobalt?

I'm buying a new car this summer so I have started my research. At first I really wanted a Mitsubishi or a Nissan, but I've come to the conclusion insurance is going to be WAY to pricy for me.

I've been looking at GM cars and at first I really liked the G5, then I happened to be browsing through autotrader and I came across the Chevy Cobalt SS. I know the Cobalt is almost the exact same as the G5, but I never looked at the SS because brand new they would be out of my price range (around 17-18k).

I noticed I can get a GM Certified Used Cobalt SS with under 25k on it for around 15-16 thousand dollar..almost or fully loaded too! Are these throw away cars? New they are well over 24... For the money, you sure do get a lot of power and I am really interested in it.

My buddies 91 Integra RS with a air intake took a Cobalt SS, not by much, like half a length, but was still funny as hell to watch a $20,000 new car, get spanked by a 280,000 km 91 integra. They look nice, but I'll always stay with some form of asian car. Nissan, Honda, Acura ect...

^ Yeah, there is no way someone just baught some SS badges on his base cobalt, or simply didn't know how to drive hehe. The "fast" cobalt would be a different story.

Cobalts are nice cars, my friend has the SS (non supercharged version) and it's ok, he hasn't had much issues with it and he likes it. Defenetly a big step above the previous cavalier\sunfire but as you see, they don't keep their value very much.

Good pep for what it is.

The interior is really nice if you can get it in leather, not so much when it's the cheep thin materiel.

I am sure the cobalt would be similar in insurance compared to the other brands. When I shoped insurance between a whole bunch of similar cars IE: mazda3, subaru impreza and neon srt4, they were surprisingly all the same price. But I suppose it might be different depending on your record and age and insurance company.

waving the BS flag on this one!

...not a pissing match, but my opinion.

Cobalt is nothing special, but inexpensive to buy, and relatively inexpensive to insure and maintain.

It wasn't supercharged, was just the SS model. What do they have, 200 BHP? And the integra has 140BHP. Consider the weight as well, nothing to a integra, luxury to the cobalt, not to mention it's a american car, they are just simply heavier.

The cobalt wasn't supercharged, but it was the SS model? Anyways, I'm for sure getting the one with the supercharger. I'm by no means a street racer, but I'd like something with a little kick

Ya it was the kids moms car. It didn't come supercharged, but they were going to get some other factory supercharger to put on it. His father works at Chevy. I don't know how it wasn't supercharged either, I thought the SS's only came super chargerd but it wasn't (well I'd hope it isn't since it lost). Have you ever heard a Type-R give it? V-Tec sounds intense on that car....

Yeah, the whole point of the SS model is the supercharger and the bigger engine. Without it its just the sports model with the 170hp, compared to the base model with 150.

Has anyone driven a supercharged cobalt?

It was a pretty good race too, they had at least 200-300 meters of stretch. For some reason most of those B18 blocks just don't give up, ***** deep.
