on my loan application it asks for my parents income...i put it down, but there also is a line for "parents contribution to you education" which is based on their income...but for me i put "special case" where they contribut $0.00 and it makes me look desperate, which gets me a little more $$$ in the end!

Hey BLIND, How did you get qualified for $8000 student line of credit. What did you show the bank to get the loan. Did you show any income or anything. Can I get it too because im in part time at a university and I dont get OSAP and a line of credit would help me out. Also I dont work any more because im doing school now. How does all this work.

Thanks
Shawn

^^ I have a 40,000 dollar student line of credit from my back (Scotia Bank) They give me 10,000 a year and what i dont use i dont have to pay back. This is my first year at university and i have used 6,000 so far and thats with only one semester of tuition payed off, Iv also used it to buy a laptop and fix my car so really i would have only used about 3,000. Its a good thing to have and the interest payments are only like 20 bucks a month. Im just worried about 6 years from now when i gotta start paying it back lol. 40,000 is like 2 years of work for what i want to be doing.

My mom and my older sister work for TD CANADA TRUST. Thats a plus. My mom got the paper work started on her breaks at work i basically had to go in listen to the financial advisor say the terms answer questions mom couldnt and sign the papers. And I do believe it was based on my parents income as well.

Go with the bank you bank with (my suggestion). And if your like me 18-22 years old (I'm turning 21 in march) then bring one of ur parents and make an appointment to speak to someone about getting a loan, show up for the appointment and they'll take you from there. I pay interest on the amount of money I use (max of $8,000).

I know a friend of mine got a student line of credit/loan to buy their car for $6,000 they brought their parents in as i explained how and went from there.

My older sister works as a partial financial advisor (working on getting the entire title as she does have her own office and do all taht they normally do) at a branch in Pickering.

ha ha ya here in ontario OSAP sucks...I personally never have been on it but all my buddys that were on it had to go though soooo much stuff to get it...Its kinda stupid if ya think about it...why should the government want to know what my parents make...alot of parents dont pay crap...so therefore my parents make too much Im going to be forced not to goto school because I dont have the funds? the gov has alot of tards in that building...the "Rae Review" (premier Bob Reas stupid bill) isent helping eaither... tuition is too high and the gov isent giving money to students that need it...id say theres a huge problem, I dont need to write a review of it lol...Take that employment Insurance (the stuff we get deducted on our pay checks) In ontario they were over 2 billion dollers, so what do they do? they give it back to us...so every $100 you make there giving 3 cents back
Sorry for my rant it just makes me mad that students are stugleing and nobodys doing anything about it... I graduated last year with 2 diplomas and am out of school now, but ill still fight for starving students...

KillerX is right, OSAP in Ontario is U S E L E S S. I put up with so much crap just trying to get the amount I did and I said No the next year to get it again because it was ridiculous. It should be based on YOUR income as YOUR paying for it. IF your parents are helping you or paying for it then No Loan for you thats fair. IF YOUR PAYING IT ALL then you should get as much as you can equally.

Blind, did you say you are currently paying interest on your TD loan?

Osap gives you interest free status as long as you are in school. I'm going on my 8th year of post-secondary, and the amount I owe osap is still the original amount (actually less. I got osap in my first year of marriage, and everything over the first $5,500 was forgiven). When I graduate in May, then interest will start to accumulate and I have 6 months before the first payment is due.

Does TD work like that? If not, the OSAP hoops to jump through are worth it, especially if you plan on doing graduate studies.

I am only paying the interest on the loan, which is like $30 if not a bit more a month. (depends on how much you use) If you knew half the crap i had to go through just to get OSAP you'd understand. TD's loan I do not have to pay back until I am finished school. I could be in school for 6 years and not have to pay it back until I'm finished.
