according to yuor pics you don't have a network adapter on your machine. its a "large black box" with two jacks on it, one for regular phone line cable, and one for cat5 network cable. it covers te expansion bay slot comletely when installed. i'm not sure what type of modem you have, but you prolly need a router. for some reason i thought i could just go out and buy a 25' network cable, and just plug it in my modem, after unplugging the pc of course, since i can't play on both of them at the same time.....yet lol, but it didn't work. but when i used the short cable form my modem to my pc, and plugged that into my ps2, i got online right away.

A buddy of mine used 50' of CAT5 cable and had no problems. The shorter the better, but his worked fine with that amount!

Here is the network adapter. Once you remove the expansion bay cover, this will hook into the single thin plug in your picture. If you purchase the hard drive, the hard drive slides in first, and then the network adapter goes over the back.

hey mr. east side, did your buddy go thru a router, or just off of his modem? i'm wondering if i need a crossover cable to eliminate the router and just go directly from my modem?

Your network adapter should have only came with the adapter itself, as well as an installation cd, you need a memory card or it wont work. The expansion bay is as others mentioned for a hard drive(which has yet to even be released by sony) so what you have is normal. Mine was plug and play, followed the info on the disk, ran my cable up through the router on my puter and away I went.

Shy, there is no official U.S. release date at the moment. I think that they were saying sometime in the 2nd or 3rd quarter of 2004 in Japan. But even so, I am not liking the $800.00 price tag, so I doubt I will be picking one up anyway!

Gunner, Yes he went through a router. 50' seems like a ton, but that is what he used and it seemed to work fine. So I dunno. LOL!
