Why would you try to save money by adding a supercharger, instead of doing the motor the right way and building up your bottom/top end before ANYTHING else?

What you'll do, is, bolt on that SC and your top end will let go, then you'll replace the heads and your bottom end will let go. That's the way it always goes. Engine building has been in my family for many years, seen it a hundred times, someone would call up my dad or my uncle and say they want their heads machined and port matched and the FIRST thing they ask is " is the bottom end going to be strong enough to handle it?"

A good friend of mine, that I have mentioned many times before, has a 2000 Ford Lightning SVT that is making just over 500hp to the rear wheels. This winter it's being sent to Roush Racing to have the motor built and when it comes back, the guy my friend and I were talking to said it should be making 750hp to the wheels and possibly more if he decides to scrap the SC that's on it now and go with one that Roush has done up. When that motor was stock it made 390hp....it actually made a little more horsepower than the other ones were making, so my friend took it as a sign and did very little to the motor itself and used some bolt on parts to make the 500hp it is currently running. Cold air induction with K&N filter, Smaller blower pully for the SC, plugs, wires and chip. Internals is where the real horsepower is going to come from through, My best advice, when building a motor is to start with intake,exhaust, heads and cam. Most engines from the factory can handle much more horsepower than they are already making, but the real gains are when you get into cranks, and pistons/bottom end.

Oh, and just to let you know, there's about a million 5.0's in the scrap yard....build yourself a stroker motor....5.0 crank in the 4.6 block. It DOES work well.

I figure stereo's will always be in my car, but i can always upgrade the performace to make up for the weight.

Got plans after warranty is up to put new heads on, and supercharge (ati prochargers) to my car.

Car already has the LS1 350 bored out.

I've always been a Ford guy, does Chevy do anything for the Camaro's like a performance package? Like Ford has the Roush Mustangs and Saleen Mustangs, does Chevy still do stuff like that?

My camaro is the SS edition which has a 275 z-rated 17" tire and nice rims, stage 1 race track suspension, forced induction intake. the camaro produces more power than the corvette at the wheels due to less mechanical loss.

The package i have is all done by SLP (street Legal Performance, they install a high flow exahust system. mine came with the top which is the SLP loud mouth. the car drives awesome, it just drives like its on rails, if you are gona be driving a camaro hard the SS is the best choice.

Hmmm.

I remember the Yenko Camaro's from 69.

they were awesome, not really a performance package on them but nice none the less.

Or the 69 SS/RT....Soooooo Sweeeet.

If I was ever to build a car, from ground up, I think it would have to be a 1970 Boss 429. But I'd run the new fuely 460 and run a turbo package on it with a 25 shot of nitrous to get rid of the tubo lag.


Remember the old Dart RT, that was basically a drag car that you could buy from the dealer? Ultimate factory hot-rod, by far.

I built a model 69 Yenko Camaro [img]graemlins/thumb.gif[/img] Turned out to be one of the better lookin ones too the best one's gonna be the Nascar Daytona 500 Earnhardt Monte Carlo in progress right now.

I hav elike 6 built within this past year and the 7th is in progress I picked it up last week. Two Camaros (the old ones of course lol) One 2001 Corvette, The Orange Supra from The Fast And The Furious which came out REALLY nice for being brush painted and not sprayed, and was also the best one i built. One 1970 1/2 Baldwin Motion Camaro and a 62 Ford Thunderbird Convertible (Which was the hardest believe it or not). I have yet to build the 53 Ford Flip Nose (the parts are a pain for the body its in like 3-4 parts and im lazy lol plus I work everday nights so) The Earnhardt 2001 Monte Carlo from the Daytona 500 race will be built first as its already in progress I sprayed the body with a wicked Metallic Black on the weekend That shines nice in the sun [img]graemlins/thumb.gif[/img] I think of it as a late developed hobby that keeps me out of trouble lol

btw, the SC Tbird used to be my dream sound car that also had that little potential to go fast.
