What Remington Ultra Mag are you talking about? The .300, .338, .375, 7mm?
As for "by far the most powerful hunting rifle you can buy"
Try a Barrett M99, and I still imagine there is something out there more powerful.

Any Ulta Mag really... I have a 300. I have crono'ed it shooting (hand loaded Swift Scirocco 180 gr bullets, loaded with 94 gr of H-1000) 3240 ft/sec, and zeroed @ 200 yards it has a drop of 19" @ 500 yards. You can't tell me that's not good? I am even loading it on the tame side. Only gun I have seen that matches a 300 Ulta Mag 180 gr bullet for hitting power @ the muzzle is a 375 H&H Magnum 250 gr bullet, which are both doing 4200+ ft-lbs of energy. After 200 yards though the Ultra Mag far exceeds the impact of the 375, look it up for yourself.
My uncle ( ex-bench rest shooter) has a 7mm Ulta Mag, that he has shooting only 11" low @ 500 yards. Of course he loads very hot rounds and only gets about 3-4 loads out of his brass, but you can't beat the #'s.
