My Best Buy review
#1
Here in london, our first Best Buy just opened 2 days ago in the south end and I went to check out the goods.
The store is nice inside, likely because it is new, and they have a few brands that FS doesn't sell.
Store: Clean A+
Selection: Huge A
Customer Service: Hmmm, its just FS in disguise, so I'm going to reserve this grade until something breaks and hope I can get some money back.
Employees: Ok, I understand that the major thing setting Best Buy apart from FS is that the sales people don't work on commission. This sounds great, but I was bothered WAY more by the employees here than at FS, and every one of them spouted off this rehearsed line about how they are non-intrusive and don't work on commission. "Thanks, get the heck out of my face then!" I was approached by 5 different employees, 3 in the same audio section. B
Verdict: I heard a story about a FS employee who went into the new Best Buy and had his FS keychain hanging out of his pocket and was kicked out of the store because of it, which is odd because they are the same company right? Oh well, its a nice store, and I'll be back there tonight to make my first purchase. Cheers!

lol - it's hard to get the 'right level' of customer service down. I used to approach every customer the same way and I would occasionally get people who snapped hard for me to leave them alone and others who were exasperated that no one had helped them yet.
Personally - nobody ever approaches me in any store I ever go into. seriously. I play with stuff to and nobody ever comes by until I maybe start taking something apart or making noise.
Fortunately I like it that way

I think they should implement a rule that if you need help you put your hand up. Then there would be no confusion

I will say this I agree 100% with the non commissioned statement being a little annoying. I know that because I work there. The company is awesome and the store is lots of fun. Everyone works as a team. But the non commissioned line gets said a little too much that I never say it unless people ask. I find you just got to be yourself and help customers out.
I will say this if your ever bored go sit in the nice leather coach they have in front of the 20000 dollar plasma.

They're opening one in Ottawa very shorty and I've been wondering if it will be worth the drive to the other end of town to check it out. If it's all the same MTX/Rockford/Kenwood stuff FS normally carries then I won't boether

When the store in Etobicoke opened a few months ago, I was in the line-up for the "Opening Specials" at 5:00AM on a Saturday morning. The staff were out in the parking lot, keeping the 400 or so people in line happy with free coffee and doughnuts. The line moved easily into the store at opening time with all those people keeping the "line jumpers" out, there was lots of stock for the advertised goodies, and I was back out of the store with my stuff in around 45 mins or so. The car audio display looked good, I like the fact that you can play with the stuff on display to your hearts content if you look like you know what you're doing, and once the staff for that department had all come over and asked if they could help, nobody bugged me after that. I have been back a few times for different things, including my new baby: http://www.toshiba.ca/web/product.gr...=6&product=691 and the staff have been great. The week after I bought the new TV, it went on sale at another chain for $200 less, and when I went in and showed them the ad, I got my 110% of the difference back without a problem at all. Made me laugh because it was FS that undercut them...
I have also upgraded my home theatre receiver and DVD player at the same store, and will probably go back in the future.
All in all, I like the stores (I've been in 4 or 5 of them now) better than FS.

I've also had it a few times when playing with different HU's that I turn one on and the last guy who had it on left it at 100% volume on a static station. I crap my pants, and a sales guy comes up and says something like "take it easy on the display"

Customer service is everything. And with any chain you are completely ignored (unless they think your trying to steal something). Or the International Stereo type that won't let you leave and they think your stupid. Stick to the small shops.
