Motorola V710
#1
I'm in the market for a new cell phone, and want one with a good camera and mp3 player built in.
I figured someone here might have one of these, or a cellphone guru here could explain something for me...
Reading the specs for the V710 at http://www.telusmobility.com/ab/pcs/...ola_v710.shtml , I see that I can add a 128MB card for mp3 use. The specs read a little fishy though...
Can I just fill up the card with any old mp3's and all will be fine or do they have to be liscenced mp3's downloaded from Telus or somewhere?
Oh and I'm assuming there's a standard stereo mini-plug on the phone that headphones could be plugged into, or I could plug it into the input on my car stereo?

as far as mp3's go, yes you can use any old mp3's. there might be limitations as far as bitrate, so you might be limited to a max of 320k, but for a cellphone I doubt thats an issue.
as far as a headphone jack, I am not versed in this phone but I would bet it's one of two ways. 1, the only way to listen to mp3's would be through the headset plug, typically a proprietary plug (same place where you'd plu in the data cable) or if it's like my old motorola T720 I had way back, then it uses a mini stereo jack, which you could then go to radioshack and get an adapter for to mate with your AUX in on your HU.
I highly doubt there's a full size headphone jack on there.
regards, Mark
EDIT: I looked through the manual, and there is a headset jack on the top left... so you will need a 2.5mm to RCA, to hook into the AUX in on your HU.

I cringed at a 2 year, and wish I hadn't, at this point I'm just waiting out the remainder.

^^I know it's 3 year.. but what value is it to Best Buy that the would give away 200$ if your not paying anything to them for the phones? I mean sure it brings you into the store but it's like them just giving you 200$ free and go shop lol... That's what I don't get...yeah 3 year is abit long however most people will have a cell phone anyway for most of there life if they had one already soo it's not so bad...

You get a free $200 gift card, but it will cost you over $1000 for those 3 years your on the plan.
I think its a better idea to pay the full price for the phone and not have to worry about paying for 3 years of service incase something happens and you dont need the phone anymore.

Well my last three year term ended a month ago... There's nothing wrong with my Samsung A540, it's just three years old and I wants a new one Telus called me up and said they gave me a $200 credit to a new phone.
In other words, they don't want me switching to another provider (such as the one with the gift card, or Roger's is giving away a portable DVD with two phone purchases), as I've been a Telus Mobility customer for over ten years now. Get a new phone, contract or not, and the $200 credit can pay for a few months' phone bills.
I could just leave it as is, and run no contract, but what the heck, I gotta have a phone for business, heck I don't even use a landline at home (the wife makes us have one though), three year contract makes no difference to me...

the v710 is a great phone. the mp3 works thru the headset jack. you can get a headphone/handsfree setup. cant remember if it comes with the phone tho. quite a few people i know have it and like it alot. and you can get tv on them now too.
