Because EA SUCKS! -- I mean how is it EVERQUEST can keep going with it's subscriber base and EA can't keep a game going with 30,000 clients paying $15 US a month ?
From what I heard, EA was/is having severe financial problems and that it hoped to make some "quick bucks" off of MCO and E&B
The long term plan was for the Sims Online to be a bread winner, which never happened.
EA also hoped that killing off the other games would make people play Sims, Ultima Online and NFSU instead, which also did not happen.
Because of this, I am not buying EA games anymore... I have played Madden since it first came out on SNES -- but I will buy the new ESPN2K5 football instead (only $30 cdn with online play!) -- I am sick of their attitude and refusal to reward those who are loyal to their products.

Mike - on Midtown I was a member of Blackin's Log (the HotDogs) and on Uptown we had our own club - Syncromesh for the last 6months or so.
Yeah Xroads was fun - I rarely raced it so the weekly income just piled up. By the end of the game all that persona had was a garage full of chopped 57 Belairs. I had all the special paints including Decal and Badass in chops
As for why it is gone - EA made the mistake of listening to the people and it was their downfall. The people demanded online chat, more parts, more money, more cars, and EA gave it all. As fast as EA could give it though people would get bored with it - that's human nature. Then there developed the scammers, the cheats, the psychotic that played day and night and drove auction pricing through the roof. Dedicated players stayed, others left.
It was rumoured at the end that across the 4 servers there were still something like 10,000 paying customers, but maybe half played semi-regularly. EA did not consider this enough income ( $10 us per person per month ) to keep the game going.
That - and it was all muscle cars (with 2 exceptions at the end) and since most games are for 10-25 year old people I think a lot could not relate. If they ever come out with MCO2, even if it is all new cars, I'll buy it in a heartbeat just for the driving realism

... Hey if we all concentrate really hard, do you think we can "will" EA to turn back the clock and re-instale MCO? Heck, I would pay up to $20 US a month to support my MCO habit... err... subscription. I don't care if they update a thing -- even if it's just bare bones -- but I would love the auctions again...
Nothing even compares... it was it's own "world".

Yeah, another board I happen to frequent has a video game section and a guy that works for EA is on there.
He basically laid it down that it was becoming too costly to keep the server current and pay someone to support them.
(and yes, I gave him crap about it!)

Mike - what "will"? SUX is a big boy and you and I are no small frys either - I say we wander into EA and take away all their Stridex and pocket protectors until we get satisfaction!!!
lol - I've been on Willingdon a couple of times and thought, hmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Personally, I would pay $20US a month too and say $20 an update. For me it would still be cheap entertainment.

I never even heard of the game untill Dukk(i think) mentioned it on another post.
It sounds like a killer game. Street Challenge by Street Source Magazine isn't too bad, but you can't build your engine part by part or anything like that. It's somewhat like NFSU except not AS focused on rice although it's definatly there.
I HATE the sims games.....mostly because I always loose at them but none-the-less, I hate them. However...my tune would change right quickly if thewy came out with a SIM Engine Shop, or something like that.
that'd be killer

Brandon -- in MCO you built the engine by selecting:
1. Block (most Ford,GM,Chrysler,AMC)
2. Pistons
3. Valvetrain
4. Electrical
5. Intake man.
6. Exhaust man.
7. Carburator (or fuel injection)
8. Camshaft
9. Crankshaft
10. Cylinder Head
11. Cooling System
12. And Airscoop (optional)
(* Did I forget anything boys?)
all the weights for the parts were listed too -- if you built your engine too light, it could fail!
AND then Brandon you could test the engine using a link, right from the game, so you could "test" the engine!
