k&n filter vs any regular filter....

K&N and other similar filters use an oil to help with the filtration process. I have never purchased one because I don't think there are any substantial gains to be had from these filters. They must be cleaned and re-oiled every 10,000km. K&N does sell a cleaner and the oil in a second package (another added expense).
I prefer using a standard OEM or quality aftermarket OEM replacement. Cheaper, less maintainace and does what its supposed to do.
K&N and other like them has made millions through excellent marketing. The beauty of the product is that its relatively inexpensive and its thought to be a "performance part". Most people don't have money for real performance upgrades (i.e. cams, heads, turbos, etc.) so they satisfy their need to modify their ride with cheap inexpensive "upgrades"...
And for those with performance intakes... If the factory thought they would so beneficial to your vehicle they would have installed them as OEM. Intakes might be good for a race car but not a daily driver...

I've thought about the whole idea of doing the intake and what not, but when it comes down to it...i'm driving a jeep, it's only gonna go so quickly. I've put these same thoughts into exhaust, sure it's kinda good for hte vehicle but worthwhile...you can only make a v6 sound so good.
I suppose i'll just cheap out and buy one of the other aftermarket filters....

No regrets for buying a K&N here. I bought it for convenience knowing I pay 70 bucks now, and not $12.95 after $12.95 after $12.95.
As long as no one brags about the "15 HP" gain they somehow get, I won't have to wring their neck.
Just get a K&N, and put the sticker on your PC.

haha yeah, it is an I6 i realize, but if someone else said i've got an I6 i normally would be like what the hell are you talking about? Also if someone told me they have an I6...i'd have to think pretty hard, only to end up asking them what the hell are you talkin about.
Hmm the lift go's in in like 3 days, so depending on how i feel after that go's thru, maybe i'll splurge and pick up a K&N as well.
When you guys speak about cleaning these filters how do you do so? air compressor, blow back thru it? or how's it done?

do not blow it out with an air compressor ............ say goodby to your filter if you do, it's pretty delicate actually
you get the K&N filter cleaning/oiling kit
and follow the directions
wich basically are, spray it with the cleaner, let soak 10 minutes , wash it out under the tap or water hose with gentle flowing water
let it dry, oil according to the directions , and put it in
