The USA is a very proud and patriotic country and they like to overtly display that patriotism . They have things like the Pledge of Allegiance that (at least in the past) schoolchildren would have to recite every morning to condition and reinforce this patriotism. Their National Anthem is a story of war and overcoming adversity that again instills patriotism in their public. None of this is bad at all - I find it interesting the degree of patriotism the US has.

Canada is a very proud and patriotic country as well but we tend to be more reserved in expressions of our patriotism. Our National Anthem talks of the beauty and freedom we enjoy in Canada. We used to sing God Save the Queen in gradeschool to portray respect to the monarchy.

Canadians tend to ridicule our American friends about their patriotism. Canadians tend to take a low-key approach to patriotism almost to spite our proud neighbors to the south (we are bigger and on top you know )

And I think in some ways there is some jealousy back and forth across the border. IMO many Canadians wish we had that loud and proud patriotic attitude that the US has. Plus it would be safe to say that the power the US has and the lower prices on goods is something we tend to get a little jealous about. Same the other way, the US would love to have our natural resources (we sell them electricity, oil, wood, beef, water, etc.), our healthcare arrangement, and I would even say the reputation that we as a country have with the rest of the world.

So really, it likely is much like the Aussies and the Kiwis - two brothers that generally get along but like to give eachother the rub occasionally.

I am jealous of American TV! I hate not having ESPN, Comdedy Central and the load of other quality TV stations. I hate having hockey shoved down my throat. But politically America is not my cup of tea. Maybe if the Democrats take power then things will change a bit, but their current way of doing things has made them quite infamous. Healthcare is pretty awsome, but anyone who thinks that it is cheaper up here is just kidding themselves. I don't really think there is much seperating the two countries when all is said and done. And we mostly just like to make fun of the other in good spirits. (Except in 1810 when we burned down the whitehouse....) Go America Jr.!

On another note, I find it intresting that the US is slowly moving toward a monocracy. You know after George is done we will let Hillary run the country, then it can be Jeb's turn....

yea i dont know what to say... like yes we have adapted to there lifestyle and because we are close to eachother it makes sense to work together. I cant say i hate how there are so many american companys in canada because i dont know what i would do without all this american stuff we have now, and its to late for us to basically cut off all stuff american and come up with it ourselves and so id have to say we do rely on america alot

But when it comes down to it... i also hate there leader and well ill just say this... i would never go n join the army to fight over in Iraq or what not, but in a heartbeat i would join up if we had a war agains America.

Talking

Well, I think that, at the end of the day, that is probably the fundamental difference between Canada and the USA.

We say 'eh'

They say 'huh'
