Is it just me, or has music gone into the toilet?

I mean come on. I listen to metal and rock/clasic rock mostly with some alternative, and I don't have too many songs on the playlist by bands that weren't around before 1990.
I'm not a country fan by any strech of the imagination, I won't even let it play through my speakers, and my opinion of rap is well, I don't count that as music.
I mean take Metal circa late 70's early 80's, and you have Metallica, Iron Maiden, Black sabath (and then Ozzy) Megadeth, Motorhead, judas priest, and the list goes on.. as far as Metal goes what if any new bands, say rom 1990 on have even come close to taking their place once they stop recording; or are even worth buying the cd for?

3 Days Grace CD the New one is actually pretty good I suggest you listen to it before the raido over plays it.
Thats the most i can think of new bands that are out there to listen to
But if all else fails Download some George Carlin Never can go wrong there.

I personally am one that lets his musical tastes... well not stop anywhere, I'll listen to anything once and due to that most things twice!
I hear where you are comming from as far as the metal music of this day and age, I am not quite old enough to be into the 80's metal nostalgically, but I know the sound of many of those band as I listen to them on a semi-regular basis. As far as modern music that has emerged; that compares to those integral bands we all know and love, there are very few/none that have been produced or promoted in the US and Canada, however Europe seems to be rich with them!
If you have an interest in discovering some of these bands drop me a pm, however I will warn you if you are heavilly a fan of the lyrics from these bands I doubt you will find much in that falvour from Europe, their lyrics seem to be heavilly medieval and folk driven, although the instrumental quality is unsurpassed.

How old are you? I've developed the theory that people's taste in music develops between ages 14 and 21 or so. Sure it can wander outside of that range, especially if it is a band that released similar music, but more or less this range defines your core music taste.
I know it certainly holds true with me and I find that the only "new" music I really like is stuff that sounds like the music that I was listening to during my 'core music' era. It may be new but it sounds like old.
Look around, ask people - so far I have found this to be pretty accurate for most people.
