Hmmm, got my half year bonus thru work. Thinkin i might drop a bit of it on a digi cam. I looked into digi cams like 3 years ago. Anyone know whats up in the world of digi cams, or who's above the rest in the runnings?
Probably spend $200-$300 most likely, but may go higher or lower as needed. Doesn't need to be great, just for taking pics here n there...party'n around kinda stuff.

I've owned the Sony DSC-92, DSC-W1, DSC-W5, and currently use the DSC-W7.
I have been extremely happy with all and have never taken a bad picture. I have been very impressed with the features, the quickness that you can make changes to adapt to the light/conditions, and the trueness of colour.
Quick time between shots and a good flash also.
I bought the DSC-W5 for my mom and she loves it also. She was used to using her $3500 Nikon setup but in the digital realm she has been very pleased with the Sony.

digital cameras are wierd. i had a panasonix fz20, retail 1200$, hated it, worst macro pics ive ever seen, i have had the luxury of using many different camers and the best on ive used yet was the canon power shot s2 is. check it out here, its a bit more that your budget, but a great camera and vid camers

I had a new Hp M22 camera that was 4mp... and the quality was worse then my old Samsung Digimax 2mp from like 5 years ago...You've really gotta play around with them and check reviews before you buy... One thing I find stay away from camera's that use AA batteries they seem to eat away at them faster then the lith battery packs...With my Kodak Dx7590 I can get like 250 shots off before my battery drains on me... Or if you do get AA use Nimh batts high MAh possible then it might be comparable.
