Wow I've never had to prepay in Canada... 'Course, I'm not young, but I am a "long-haired scary lookin' hippie", if *I* was a worker at a gas station, I'd take one look at the hippie and make him pay...
The only time I've ever had to prepay was when I drove down to Santa Cruz a couple years ago, and stopped in Sacramento for some gas.... I'd never heard of prepay then, and the guy inside, behind the (locked up solid) counter, got a good laugh at me trying to figure out why it wouldn't come on...
What was really weird about that trip is, when I filled up in Oregon, it is illegal for you to fill your own car. At all. Period. Don't even touch the pump dude, full serve ONLY! I drove up in my RV, hopped out, grabbed the nozZzle and started fillin'. Dude comes running out of the booth at high speed... "What are you doing?!?! You can't do that!!!" They even threatened me with a "you're lucky a cop didn't see you".
Anyway, IMHO, them takin' one look at you and wanting prepay sucks, yes, but is just a fact of life. Just like under 25's pay higher insurance. Sucks for the folks that are under 25, but putting yourself in their shoes, you can see the logic behind it.
Again, being somewhat of a fishy lookin' guy myself, I get that all the time... Walk into a 7-11 and the workers never take their eyes off you. Walk into an HMV and one worker sits down and stares at the surveilance video monitor while you're in the store... Walk into a Wal-Mart and get "followed". It happens all the time. Then ya slap 'em with your gold card for your purchases and it feels good, they don't expect that

Thats the thing,I wasnt the only younger guy that was getting gas. There was a guy with his buddies filling up a Mustang he never had to prepay...and
I mean I can understand wanting things prepaid but the fact that I was singled out in front of the people that were in the station and the clerk literally pointed at me and said "young guys like you" thats the part that chaps my ***, and what made it even worse was the fact that I wasnt the only guy under 25 that was getting gas there at the time.
I know Im not going ot make a million dollars, I dont want any handouts from them all I want is an apology and explanations why I was the only one singled out rather than being asked to leave because I was making a scene when all I was doing was asking why I got different treatment than the other customers.

I understand nobody wants to be trated like a criminal, especially if you have no mal intent in mind, but really... that's life, and it goes on.

Let me make it easier for you.
You want to know why you were singled out? Easy, because "yonge guys like you stole gas". What else is there?? That seems logical enough for me.
You wanted an appology.......im sure when you called the head office and the person who initially answered the phone and heard you out said sorry more than once, did she/he not?
The dude at the gas station will not appologize b/c he has nothing to appologize for, he was protecting his business from yonge guys that steal gas.

How does someone steal $94 worth of gas ... That's quite a bit ...

^ Ever filled up a modern V8-powered SUV? They all have like 100+ liter gas tanks in them. At around $1 or more per liter, yep $94 sounds feasible.
That sux that happened to you, Logan. I don't think its really Esso's fault. It's the managers own personal opinions, experiences and views on the issue of gas theft and those who do it. He could have managed a Shell, Chevron, etc. Anyway, its 'profiling' and discrimination yes, but sadly he has that opinion for a reason and just like somebody mentioned about under-25 males paying vastly higher insurance rates just because more often than not, those in that age and gender group get into more accidents. He's being cautious. Over-cautious perhaps yes.

How it it any harder to steal 94 dollars in gas, than it is to stea 5 dollars. once it's in your tank you drive away without paying... what's so hard to understand.

btw in regards to the topic, discrimination is everywhere. when old people pass you and give you a dirty look do you complain to them?
i get pulled over by cops almost on a daily basis based on what i drive and how old i am, sometime's they're nice, and sometimes they're not. discrimination is everywhere and it happens to you, me and every other member on this board (when playing the stereo loudly for one) but after a while you just get used to it. i don't know why this one is such a big deal, its not like he based it on your race. plus look at private insurance. you can be the best kid, best driver, best citizen and they still won't look at you until you hit 22 or so.
