I look under my dash and I found this is where the smell is comming from ... but I don't see wires that look melted well not that I could get 100% look but what could cause this? I noticed it only happens when I start the car and nothing else.. I know Gm did recall on previous year models due to High current and the wire would/could melt if ur car didn't start and you let it just crank over so they installed a relay to preven the high current from melting down the wires... Any of you Mechs out there heard of this? It's almost like electrical smells of sorts....

there may be recalls that you may need to check with gm, you just need to give them your vin#.

And I have had a few GM's through my bay that have had trouble starting due to this very problem.
You know what's extra special - my mother's 92 Grand Prix had this issue - way to not fix anything for over a decade GM...

I know your problem. I've had the exact same thing happen to my old car. It's actually a pretty easy fix so don't sweat it. However, if you don't fix it right away, you are in for YEARS of problems...one after another. Now...follow these instructions EXACTLY as I say....go buy a Dodge.
