How do I make my website come up in Search engine results?

asy i have a website. how do i make it come up in (google/yahoo/ask.com/etc) search results if someone is searching for a keyword that is relative to my site.
Im not talking about sponsored positions. im talking about free search inclusions only.
anyone know?
please do not suggest the paid inclusions or CPC.
