depends what version of windows you have, but you wanna get to the command prompt and type in "fdisk" and see if it's partitioned, then format it

If you have windows XP, right click on MY COMPUTER, CLICK MANAGE I think it is, then you will look for DISK MANAGEMENT you should see that harddrive listed there but with no letter or unassigned RIGHT CLICK on it, and click FORMAT it should take over from there and once finished you should have an active drive, if format isn't an option just goto the properties after RIGHT CLICKING on the drive, and look through the options there... it's pretty straigh forward

He says he isnt seeing it in the bios.. that would lead me to believe that you've eother got 2 hard drives both on master or slave, or a bad hard drive.. Check the jumpers on the hard drive.

Whoops, my bad Needs to be partitioned then. some hard drives come with a disk to make it really easy for the not so computer literate to do it.. maxtor hard drives come with maxblast, western digital with WD lifeguard.. if you've got one of those hard drives and cant figure it out, i'd recommend downloading their partitioning utility. It's also alot quicker than a Fdisk and full format in DOS.
