The people we bought our house from, paid $50K less 3 years prior...its a weird market...

Why not look into the used market? I know around here, the new houses are garbage...my 20 year old house wil outlast any of the new ones (except for the really high end custom homes)

Something to think about...But pricing isn't far off...a 2 storey, 3 bed/2 bath new around here would start at roughly $250,000 with practically NO backyard, cheap builder grade fixtures etc...

Have fun, I hate house hunting, but once you find that one place and move in, it's the best feeling!

Yeah...Was watching the news the other night and they say our housing prices in Clagary are rising faster than anyother major city in Canada...

The spoke with a real estate agent and she says its at a point where if you like the house when you see it,you had better make an offer right then and there...or chances are it will be gone by the morning....

Calgary is crazy....There's not enough people for all the jobs, but there's not enough houses for all the people trying to fill those postions...

As far as buying used here,I've heard in alot of cases its cheaper and faster to have a house built than trying to find a used one that suits your exact needs....

I am so glad we bought when we did. Our home has increased more than $200,000 in the last 3yrs.

Which is great...if I sell and move back with my parents

My parents bought a 4 bedroom starter back home right on mainstreet in town for $109,000. It's now worth almost $180,000 2 years later. Condos are being sold where I'm from, for $54,000 for a newly renovated bachelor apt. If I was done school and working, I'd grab one if i could.

Those prices are disgusting. Sounds like they are on-par with houses in the suburbs of Vancouver now, like in Surrey, Langley, and Maple Ridge.

I just bought and moved into our new 3-bedroom townhome on Tuesday. Price was $255,900. We bought in October when it was still being framed and was just finished last week. Price has already went up about $30k on a comparable unit. It's ridiculous really. I'm glad now that we jumped in, finally, are in the 'stream' now. We literally couldn't really afford to wait any longer. We watched prices go up at a rapid pace for 5 years and figured we have to get it in before it gets even higher.

Townhomes are the hot item here in the Lower Mainland. Prices for the same home can range from $425,000 in Richmond/Vancouver/WestVancouver to $200,000 in Chilliwack. It's about a 1.5 hour drive between, but that's not just straight highway driving either (about 120 kms).

Well I bought my first house 5 years ago for $210,00.00 and after 2 years I sold it for $305,00.00 and now 3 years later it's selling for $350,000.00. I made my money yet it is quite fustrating if you are trying to get into the market. Good luck.
My second house which I'm in right now was a fixer uper which was well worth it. I put in about $60,000.00 and increased the value by about $150,000.00 yet I will never move as I just love my house and of course the great lot that I have 100X300 feet which is quite rare in Vaughan.
Good luck buddy.
