Well im gonna head up to futureshop on monday i think with my dad, and probly end up spending a lot of money on things that i dont really need, but are on for good deals.

One of these things is a home theatre/audio system, but i have no idea about any of this stuff, and dont know whats good and whats not. so id like a little advive on what to get. (im on a budget here too, dont wanna spend a whole lot)

for a reciever im thinking one of these:

http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...gid=EN&dept=10

or

http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...gid=EN&dept=11

or

http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...gid=EN&dept=11

and for speakers, i was thinking of this little package because its cheap:

http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...gid=EN&dept=10

would it be worth my money to buy some of this?

there is also this complete package that would be a little more:

http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...gid=EN&dept=10

any imput would be appreciated

I own a panason SA-XR50 and so far it's treated me well. Cost me $300 last year i think. Add'd on a set of athena speakers which gets crazy reviews for the money. Retail is like $600-800, or about 200-300 on the internet, best buy in the US sells em for like $200.

All in all a solid start to a home stereo!

I would stay away from the sony reciever if I were you, you would be better off with the yamaha or even the panasonic. Also with those sattelite speaker systmes with the tiny drivers they usually sound good at low volume but if they are going in a bigger room or you are going to be turning them up alot you might wanna spend a little extra money a better set of sattelites or even better, full size speakers.

If you are set on sattelites you might want to check out your local xs cargo and see if they have these:

my friend bought a set, I think they were around $200, really surprised me for the money he spent.

Your first mistake is buying a home theater at "F"shop, but if you must Yamaha is in a different league than the other crap you mentioned. I have had Yamaha equipment in my home theater for nearly 2 decades it is by far the best bang for the buck. This stuff never breaks and sounds decent

my 2 cents

ps: In my opinion speakers are the most important piece dont go cheap here!!!!!

londondrugs.com has the Panasonic XR25 for $199 (silver). IMO, this is a better receiver than the XR30 for $190 at Futureshop.ca.

Stay away from Sony DE series. However, Sony ES is much better, but more $$$.

Just picked up this reciever today. http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...1&newdeptid=10

except I got it from visions...with extra warrenty and tax came to 297$...It has many features and puts out clear sound.

I also have a "High quality" Pioneer reviever VSX-D912, it was 300$ and its louder than the Harmon/Kardon, not clearer, not as many surround options, looks crappier.

My opinions from the otions you have, go Yamaha for Reciever. Athena speakers are also very very awsome if you can get a good deal on them, I can only find really expensive ones though.

HK is nice but high quality and Pioneer should never be used in the same sentence unless you talking "Elite"

"Athena very very awesome" back room junk at best

FWIW, the Pioneer 1014 is currently going for $499 ($200 savings) at Futureshop. This one is only missing a couple of features of the next model up, Pioneer Elite 52TX.

Personally, I have not been a fan of HK. In the past, they have too many quality control issues. Hence, I don't recommend HK to anyone. Too many other good receiver brands like Denon, Yamaha, Onkyo, Sony ES, Pioneer Elite, Marantz to consider instead.
