Question

Well i have like $600 in my bank....that is supposed to go towards **** i've already bought...but...because i'm on holidays, it seems like i should buy something. Surely i could add another hundred or two to that if need be. But i've concluded this.

It's time to get a start on the home entertainment center business (for my room - bro already has one for the main room). I'm lookin to pick up a receiver and a set of front speakers.

I realize you could probably spend $2000 on a receiver and that on speakers too...but lets be realistic, i'm poor. We bought my bro's for about $600ish i think for xmas (receiver and speakers) and so i figure i can do this. I'm just wondering if there's anything i should know, or definitely look for or splurge for in speakers or the receiver. I know a lil bit about it all....but any suggestions/info you guys/gals can toss up will surely help.

thanks!

we picked up a sony receiver from Sears a year or maybe two ago and never had any problems or complaints about it. Picked up a set of JBL 5.1 speakers with it as well and they sound amazing even though they look tiny they're amazing for sound Sears isn't to bad they just tend to stick to Sony gear so if ur not a fan of Sony then.. yea lol What about Future Shop?

Some of the future shop house brand speakers are actually quite decent. (I don't remember the brandname.. Quest or something maybe?) Your best bet is to probably go into the store you're getting the deals from, and take a look.

Is your toatl budget for reciever and front speakers $600?

If so...I would look at a used reciever, perhaps a Denon 1802. For speakers check out the Paradigm performance line.

I've come outta the store with a panasonic sa-xr50s receiver, all digital and discontinued aka cheaper along side some paradigm monitor 3's.

I haven't purchased this, but it'd be about $300 for the receiver, and $325 for the speakers....later i'd add on...when i'm rich get a set of front towers and bass box.....

but any comments on those two pieces?
