They also have 3 different catalog ordering departments & warehouses across canada. Belleville, Montreal & Regina. If for some strange odd reason they closed the Belleville warehouse their customers wouldn't disappear as they still have Montreal & Regina. They'll either open another one somewhere else (stupid idea) or keep this one going. Out of all the money I've seen them waste on employee morale, spiffs w/e u wanna call it they're not in any danger of shutting down. For their so many years anniversary a couple years ago when I first worked there (I worked there twice) they gave all their employees $100 gift cards. They have A LOT of employees.
Here's some info for yah however, most ppl hired in the warehouse part of that building are hired as seasonal employees, they're only there during the times where its very busy (rushes, wishbook time for example) and then they're fired/let go at the end of their term. ( I applied for a job in the warehouse so I wouldn't have to sit on my rear all day and listen to angry customers scream at me saying I purposely screwed up their order 50 times. And was explained their process). I've had a few friends that worked in the warehouse and they were let go sometimes after working there for a month if that because there either wasn't enough work or they felt they didn't need them. Upstairs (call centre) whether u do a good job or not they don't care because there is always someone else waiting to do your job. $9.20 an hour in Belleville is a blessing considering the jobs or lack there of available to ppl in this crappy city. Most ppl in this city would love to sit on their cans and talk on the phone for 5-7.5 hours and get paid that rate. Where as the things I witnessed (shadyness etc) I'd rather work for $7.65 everyday for 9hours where I'm always moving and doing something different.
I know managers, high up people, Human Resources ppl in that warehouse and of course the usual call centre employee's & warehouse employee's. They aren't going to close down that warehouse. And dropping a credit line because one building couldn't pay their heat & hydro is ridiculous. Excuse my rant I just hate the company due to what I witnessed on their grounds as a 'reliable' (yah right) company.

GM has a ton of problems, that is one indisputable fact. I mean Ford and Chrysler have to contend with the UAW as well, yet they are not hurting like GM. What Dodgeram said is true. Another thing is building cars no one wants. Remember the Pontiac Aztec? How much do you think that little project cost GM in total. Once you figure in design, tooling, production, advertising costs, it's a surprise that didn't bury the company. Now look at what's current. Ford Mustang, nice car based on retro looks, Dodge Charger, nice car with retro name (Challenger should be very nice). What does GM do? The HHR, gee didn't Daimler Chrysler do that 100 years ago with the PT Cruiser? GM needs alot of help.

^ I highly doubt it.
Yep, Dereck nailed it.
x2, the HHR is a glorified big PT Cruiser, that's obvious as all hell.
As much as I currently dislike GM, I personally don't want to see any North American automobile manufacturer go down.

GM has 612 different SUV lines because they believe in market saturation. If there are 10 of something to choose from and you make 9 of them then chances are that someone will buy one of yours.
The flaw is that you still have 8 left to sell.
I mean here is a company that discontinued their two major rear wheel drive car chassis (Caprice and Camaro) in an era when RWD is stronger than ever. They tried to keep in the game with the GTO but that totally flopped.
This is a company that has made 3 consecutive vehicles that nobody wants: Aztek, SSR, and HHR.
MiniVans are still a leading money market - how many Ventures you see out there compared to Caravans and Freestars?
How about trucks? I see at least 3-4 Rams and F150s to each Silverado.
bah - i hates the GM.

I think that this is just the beginning... our economy is so bloated, housing prices, wages etc are so much higher than the rest of the world's standard that we're going to end up falling, and falling hard.
Problem #1: North american governments have figured out the correlation between economic prosperity and votes: ie. if people have high paying jobs and disposable income, then they will vote for the current government to stay in power.
Problem #2: "Get it now, pay for it later" everyone is encouraged to get up their eyeballs in debt just so that they can have everything that they want, and as long as they make the minimum payment, everyone's happy.
Problem #3:city-centred population. our populatoin has forgotten how to fend for itself. If the people of canada grew their own vegetables and livestock, we'd have a lot more stable economy.
Has no-one else noticed that ford, GM and chrysler are practically giving their cars away? North american car companies are simply producing vehicles to keep people employed in a production system that is entrenched in 1960's mindset and technology, which the UAW and CAW perpetuate because it serves the union's needs, and not the needs of anyone but the unions.
I read in the paper today that GM loses over 2300 dollars for every car they sell. ford makes less than 200 dollars, and chrsyler makes just over 230 dollars. compared to the Japanese who make over 1000 for every car... Nissan makes over 1600/car.
Our economy is going to collapse, it may take a few years, but it will fall, and fall very hard.
anyone know of any jobs for electricians in alberta?? LOL
