Favourite Guitar Players?

1. Matt Freeman, bassist from Rancid - Listen to Axiom and Maxwell Murder and you'll know what I'm talking about.
2. Tom Morello - I wouldn't call his playing as good as his mastering of effects. Like on Bulls on Parade, Calm Like a Bomb, and The Ghost of Tom Joad.
3. Chris from Propagandhi - He's very good, but subtle. You don't really know he's good until you find out there's only one guitarist in the band... and he's the lead singer to boot.
And I've always like Kerry King from Slayer. He's not particularly a great guitarist, but his off-key solos are sometimes things of beauty (Angel of Death, Raining Blood and Dead Skin Mask.)

I don't know how Kurt Cobain can be on anybodies list? He plays 3 chord songs, didn't do anything special and sang crappy songs that all sounded the same. Dave Grouhl is much better off without him.
1. Kirk Hammet
2. Dimbag
3. Eddie Van Halen
4. Zakk Wylde
5. The Edge
6. Alex Lifeson of Rush (So underrated)
BTW: I've never been a fan of Kerry King, his solo's just sound the same. Not like the way you don't want Eddie's solos to end.

OK OK!! lets get down to the nitty gritty. IMO..
If we are looking for the greatest guitaist's of all time we are looking for revolutionaries.
Lets start with Robert Johnson This man was a genius. He influenced every body mentioned in this thread including my next choice and my personal favorite.
BB King... I had the pleasure of meeting this great soul of a man in the mid eighties, some of you might remember the Ontario Place forum I was there for one of his shows. (I have seen him @ least a dozen times) To this day when ever I hear his soulful tones I get chills. This to me is greatness.
Now Jimi Hendrix turned the guitar world upside down. We talk about revolutionaries this cat was it. With his unorthodox playing of a left handed guitar right handed and his improvising made him a ICON!!
Now I should probably end it here but I would be remiss if I did'nt mention Eddie Van Halen I grew up listening to Eddie to me he personifies what a hardrock\heavymetal guitarist is, in your face no BS. He has influenced all hardrock\heavymetal guitarist's since..
Now I will give honourable mention to some of my FAV'S
Stevie Ray Vaughan..Died to early
Randy Rhodes...^ Ditto
Les Paul...Gibson..enough said
Carl Perkins.. Straight up fine plucker!!
Alvin Lee.. someone mentioned him he's no secret in my books ..
I could go on foever but I won't. Just puttin in my 2cents
Later Rob.........

Ok first off, Axle Rose is such a moron it's not even funny.
GNR would have been one of my favourite bands if it wasn't for him. His voice is annoying and his attitude sucks.
Velvet Revolver will probably NEVER be what GNR was/is, but just for the simple fact that you have Slash and Duff in the same band without Axle Rose, makes them, IMO, better than GnR.
Second, I've been seeing alot of people posting Tom Morello as one of their favourites.
Tom is good, no argument there, but the guy uses mostly effects pedals. I don't think I've ever heard him go into a 2-3 minuet solo like Kirk Hammet or Zakk Wylde.

Whether he played anymore than 3 chords or not he still did good. I go back to the first sentence i stated tis bout 'your' fav. So those (including I) that posted him as a fav thats our fav regardless of how you feel about him as a guitarist lol

Also I have a couple discs full of songs where I like the solo's. None of them are 2-3 minutes, a song shouldn't even be that long. Also none of them are your typical "shredder" type guitarists. Some of my all time favorite guitar solos are by J. Mascis from Dinosaur JR. and Matthew Sweet. Also the Meat Puppets have a few cool solos.

Although, solos aren't everything.
BTW, I'm not saying Kerry King is the greatest in the world, but he shines through in the songs I posted.
