If your just running it from 1 computer to the next in your house, you shouldn't have to worry unless you have like a 80000 Sq foot house.

I have a 100m cable that I made to prove that my crappy 100baseT 3Com hub could maintain a 100baseT connection thru 100m of cable.
I ran it from my house to my buddy's house down the street thru our backyards (he wouldn't let me coil it up on the floor) and it worked with zero packet loss.
100m is apparently the max, and you can get 100% transmission through that.
