I'm a stamp collector (Canadian Mint) and I've bought hundreds, maybe thousands, of dollars of stamps off of eBay. It's pretty addictive. Before I hired the exorcist to rid me of the evil, I was like hard core. I would wake up in the middle of the night and have 4 or 5 windows open with various bids ready to be clicked on - five seconds left or less. You do find the occasional super deal, but mostly, it's the rush you get that's rewarding. My wife could tell I was on eBay by the way my eyes popped out of my sockets....... my kids hated it, because I would freak when one of them started to hog the bandwidth.

If you're ADD, compulsive/impulsive/depressed/etc. eBay is as bad as alcohol and drugs.

Thank god I found a better vice --- this forum! AAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!

BTW, I don't ever bid for something I really want until the absolute last minute. No sense in starting a bidding war or letting the other guy know there's someone else lurking around ready to pounce. If there is one going between two people, I check their rating (experienced or not). If it's between two newbies, I jump in at the last second and "boom", they have no clue what hit them. Hahahaha!!!!!!!!!!

OMG, I'm doing it again......... damn ADD -- ritalin!!!

Read Tim's advise list, very good points indeed. But, Tim, 25 seconds? My record right now is 3 seconds! I wrote a EBay timer in VB and have it count down on the screen. I hate snipers too, but sometimes you have to join 'em to beat 'em.

If buying from the states, there is a $20cdn ceiling for duties and taxes. Then the duty amounts vary depending on what you buy and where it was made. Sometimes it is worth the trip to your local cuatoms office to enquire - the one in my home town is very helpful.

Good luck and don't get hooked!

Mark

I hate the emails to sell off line, end the auction early and do other stupid things

I bid what I am willing to pay and I dont worry about it, sometimes it is fun to out snipe a sniper

USPS (United States Postal Service) or anything but UPS....................

Once it hits Canada it is serviced through Canada post, down side is the tracking stops once it hits Canada most of the time.

I have a place across the border called Ship Happens that I send most stuff to (Dukk uses it too) it is cheap, no monthly fee's and you don't get raped by UPS coming across the border. I have bought stuff for cheap and the UPS "A$$" fees are double the price of the item I bought.

How does this timer work ???

I can never get it refreshed in 3 seconds, but I have a slow process for my bid, so that by the time I hit comfirm it's about 6 seconds left
