Using IRC (mirc is just a client to acess the irc protocol), you can attain some of your best speeds, although you just need to know what to look for. Easiest way to find movies, apps, games, etc. on IRC is most propably www.packetnews.com ... or www.ircspy.com ...
and if you are having problems with Codecs, your best bet is to find out which codec the file was compressed with, and then go download it. There are programs available which do this for you. They'll tell you what codec was used to compress the video.
