If its a company I frequently bought from and trusted and didn't want to screw over however I would ship it back right away and say you sent the shipment twice, thanks anyways double of all would have been nice lol

They could "ask" all they want, but I'm pretty sure they can't just go ahead and charge his card again or take any other action for their own negligence. </font>
Yah but what kinda legal advice for this particular situation are you looking for generally? It's more of a personal moral decision. If you want to be honest send it back, if you want to live with their mistake keep it lol.
They could probably charge it and "say the charge was delayed". And even in that case send it back and say here's my original receipt I only orded one shipment you sent me two. Or the fact that you could lie if you really wanted to and ask why you got charged twice IF you got charged twice.
Personally I wouldn't think they could charge it twice.

pusnboob, why did you post this in the first place? You have your mind made up, as does your friend - the gear is yours.
Was this just a discussion starter? If so, why can't people throw around their moral ideas?
Legally, The company cannot put anything on your credit card you did not agree to. Example: I go to a carnival and buy cotton candy for $1.00. Later that night, the carny comes to my house and leaves a huge batch of cotton candy at my door. Since he left me this, and I did previous business with him, does that then give him a right to come into my house and help himself to enough cash to cover the costs? No. Likewise, the company cannot simply add such a charge to his card. I believe the company would be required to contact him about the mistake and work things out. IE, "If you do not return the gear, then we will charge it to your account," seems perfectly legit. But I know squat about specifics in the law.
Personally, I would contact the company and let them know. The company can decide then. I would not pay for any shipping, and I would carefully watch my credit card statements.

To clear up any other doubts...the stuff really is for my friend. I used the quotations in the original post because it seemed so cliché to be asking for a friend. Anyhow, it's become a debate of morals now, and if it was me in this situation, I'm pretty sure I would be keeping the stuff.

I think in the end Pus it would be a moral decision overall... But like I said the way some look at it, its their fault their problem, if they later down the road say we sent you 2 shipments then you can lie or be honest and say yes and give it back They could also have sent you Double just to make up for the first inconvenience who know's really.. Is it an asian based company? (just curious, please ppl don't start going on about this as I'm asking HIM)

Could have this..could have that....You COULD guess what happened till you are blue in the face. Be a good citizen, let them know the mishap. Besides if you want to do future business with them, keeping parts they accidentally already sent to you isn't a good start.

I do shipping/receiving as my day job. we get double/triple shipments and overships all the time, our procedure is ask how much discount to keep. it shows we're honest, (though they never seem to remember that when we're missing something) there are times when we keep stuff, simply because there's no way to return it. when a case (15kg's) of gummi worms shows up with no name or address, we eat them (arrived with skid of light fixtures)

I'm in Mtl. right now, and the stuff hasn't actually shown up yet. He has three boxes of goods sitting in the UPS warehouse right now...that's two to many to be a power supply.

Nah, in the original shipment the power supply was back ordered, and in the bill for the new shipment, he was charged for the power supply only, and all the items in the shipment are EXACTLY the same, according to the receipt. It just seems pretty odd that you would actually pick and pack an order of that size and not find it weird that the billing price is only $72.
Oh well...what happens, happens. I'm not going to concern myself with it anymore.
