I dunno...I've had quite a few tools ripped off on jobsites, some right behind my back...even had a brand spankin' new cordless still in its case lifted while I was in the same room.
If it were ME that this happened to maybe I would think of it as reverse karma. Karma must work both ways, right? Guy has always been an honest, hard working stand up guy, always helping everyone out in whatever way he can and *poof* here's his reward.
Would you also return the proverbial bag of cash lying in the street that belongs to the bank?
And Casino Greek...why would you be given that dufflebag of integrity if you weren't meant to spend it? And who exactly gives out this bag?

Your friend may be an honest, hard working guy but maybe the owner of the computer company is also.
Just because you were stolen from doesn't mean you should steal from everyone else.
Yes I would return the bag of money found in the street.
Just because everyone's going to die in the end doesn't mean they should all die without honour, respect, integrity, good nature, etc.
If they did would the tombstone read "He had a good life. He managed to use up all his integrity and honesty before he died."

FINALLY...an answer to the actual question. I told him a month max. Wait 'till the next monthly statement comes in and away ya go.
And lets not get to excited with throwing the term "stealing" around there, hardwrkr. The dudes never stolen anything more than a chocolate bar as a kid. Someone screwed up...not his fault.
You guys all seem pretty eager to preach your ethics, I must've posted on the CanadianSoapbox.com by mistake.
But for the record...I would keep the bag of money. Not sure about the goods, though. I think if they were sitting in my livingroom....I dunno...awfully tempting.

I meant to return it but totally forgot about it til I found it about a year later sitting in my closet. It always bugged me that someone else might have been charged for that cd, wish I had dealt with it asap.

Actually...I was looking for an answer to the question..."how long should he sit on the items before he could safely decide to keep them". Not the question you and most others are looking to answer..."is it right to keep them".
You see...he doesn't CARE if it's right or not. I'm pretty sure he doesn't really care if you agree with it or not. That is why I made it pretty clear to begin with...remember the "barring any moral or ethical issues" statement? It would seem you read that as "please give me a lesson in morality".
I think stealing at its finest would be walking out of a store with this crap all hangin' out from under his shirt...marching into an establishment with the intention of stealing. Not having the establishment SEND him the stuff...begging for it.

well, i would sure keep them. if the company asked for them back sometime, sure, id send them back ( if they paid for it). but if not, then id keep em. i bet the amount that the company would lose is nothing compared to how much they rip people off in the long run.
