my dog is like a child to me, she comes to work with me everyday. i have spent practically everyday with her since she was 7 weeks old. she ate a piece of an onion, turns out she is allergic, 5 hun, got into some antifreeze, friggin near died, 8 hun, regular maintainance around a grand yet this dog get run over by a car and walks away, i mean this dog did barrel rolls after exiting from underneath a car and only had some grease stains to show for it. i would exhaust my resources to keep my dog healhty so long as it wasnt cruel to do so, i dont have kids and dont want any(they smell) so this dog is mine and my wifes child and she gets treated as such. its the responsibility of the pets owner to think about the dog and not themselves when it somes to doing the humane thing. waiting till your dog it blind, deaf and cant walk up stairs is selfish imo and a dog shouldnt be allowed to get to that point

According to the humane society if you have to put an animal down yourself the most humane way to do it is to drown the animal...
If it was a familly pet I might just leave it in the garadge with the car running or perhaps give them a leathal does of some narcotic... dead is dead.. just so long as the animal dosen't suffer..
Id admit that shooting an animal is a little cold/violent for a familly pet... I probably wouldn't be able to bring myself to do something like that...

Had ours cremated.... did you know they do that stuff by the pound? holy fat 65 pound bully batman.
I had a list when I was small and my #1 item had always been to own a Bulldog, She was the best animal I've had and was taken far too soon even by there meager life spans.
Brain hemorrhage. I lost my dog and my child in the same year I can attest that I do not know which was harder ( I loved each ) They are our children.
You have forced me to show her off

^Sorry about your losses.
So where you live they cremate "by the pound"? I've seen pix of your OEB before, cute lil girl. Their meager lifespan is increasing through good breeding practices. Keeping them fit helps a lot!
Why must they keep being refered to as "animals", I know that's what they are, but what's so hard about calling your dog a pet or friend for a couple examples. Just trying to **** me off because of my previous posts? Lame guidelines of when they should be put down, like if the vet bill costs more than the dog is ****ed up IMO. So what now?

^ Well, since you want everyone to understand how your dogs are your family maybe you could take a second to see how for many a dog is a pet, an animal that lives in the house because it pleases the family.
As for this..
A pet and a child both need discipline and leadership. If that is lacking, either will be disrespectful and disobedient. I have known people with dogs that they cannot get to stop jumping on furniture, properly housetrain, etc. What is that if not disobedient?
As for this..
Food for thought.....
A dog won't bite the hand that feeds it, yet some children are disrespectful and disobedient to their parents.

<edit> If this board had a poll option I would post one asking if it's acceptable to put your pet down if it's vet bill totals more than what it cost you to buy it. WTF is that? So far your the only one in this thread thaT i SEE WOULD NOT PAY THE BILLS, YOU TOOK ON THE RESPONSIBILITY OF OWNING IT! oops caps lock. Oh and there was somebody else that wouldn't pay. Same goes for you.
I couldn't care less if people know my dogs are family. People that don't think that way shouldn't be able to own a pet IMO. YOU shouldn't be able to buy a dog or adopt one if your just going to put it down if it get's a high vet bill!
So do you own a dog? If so I feel sorry for it.....
Maybe the way a persons dog acts is a good indication of how good of a parent they are!

People opinions are so differ so much on the topic of when it put an animal down. Myself Ill pay what is needed to keep my pets alive and well. My dad on the other hand was raised on a farms.....tell a farmer its gonna cost $800 to fix the leg on his 10 year old dog and let me know if you can hear the shot from the trees.
There is no real correct reason or time to put a dog down when it happens or needs to be done most people know and accept the fact.
