Question

OK....so w/the addition of a home stereo...i've got my computer connected thru the receiver (dvd in) so that it plays music thru winamp fine. I've also got speakers playing the tv audio fine.

Previously (before the receiver) id run a composite video cable from my video card to the tv-in on the tv and it would display picture fine.

Now what i did, is connected the tv to receiver via the monitor out connecter on the receiver and connected the video from the pc to the receiver via dvd in.

With this setup...my video card should give me the option of a second display assuming the receiver is on dvd and i should be able to watch video's from the pc on the tv. But i can't...any idea what i might have screwed up here? It's a radeon 9800 PRO video card btw

here's a pic of hte back of my receiver...pay no attention to random arrows i cut n pasted from pages outta the manual

go for the longer cable, i don't trust couplers, and, might as well do it right the first time

Unless your reciever does vido upconversion you need to connect the same type of cable from the computer and from the TV. So if you use s-video from the Computer--receiver, then you need to use s-video from the receiver--to the TV.

What receiver are you using?

I have the 9800 Pro and it's a pain in the *** to get it to look decent on the tv for movies you can really see dot crawl, or the pixels of the tv even though you mess with the settings looks to bright sometimes, you can see scrolling lines through the movies, my tv allows up to 800*600 display..I dont know if it's just the cheap S-video but bugs the hell outta me..

In your advance ATI control panel, in Displays , you have a icon(in french is dépanner) below the 4 screen mode (DVI,HDTV,TV,VGA) clic on it and set it to forced the TV-detetion.

I'm not currenlty at home, so i haven't had an option to try all the above suggestions...but i can say, i'm using the same type of cable for both pc-to-receiver and receiver-to-tv (can't remember if it's s-video or composite - but it's the one with rca cable type connectors.

Receiver is a panasonic SA-XR50.
