Computer Speakers and Sub

Computer Speakers and Sub
A friend gave me a new speaker set for my computer. Two small speakers and a sub. They work great but, the sub has no gain on it, so whenever I turn up the music, the sub is pounding way to hard. Any idea how I can turn the sub down some, and still have my music at a decent volume?

thats odd that the sub has no gain, they almost always do on those.
What type of speakers are they? Don't suppose they came with any software (thats unlikely)
Technically if you go into your Master Volume contorl (double click on the speaker down by your clock) and click the advanced button underneath the Master Volume column you can set Bass and Treble on a scroll bar of about 8 settings.
Note, for this to work you'll likely have to be telling your computer what type of speaker system your using. This gets done in Control panel>sounds and audio devices properties>advanced button (under speaker settings). I'm not sure there'll be one to specifically match your setup, but play around with them, see which setting works the best for you.
Note all these ideas came off a win xp machine. If you're not on xp...then meh.
