Compaq System Restore
#1
I am yet again attempting to restore my Compaq pc back to a blank slate. However I cannot get the System Restore disks to work.
It says to insert them then go from there, but I insert the cds and nothing happens.
I can barely use my pc because of all the problems it is having. I lost my serial code for my compqa xp cd as well...just not a good day
does anyone have any ideas on how to get system restore to work?

When you boot up the PC see if there is a way you can get in to the bios.
(usually Insert, F10 or something like that)
Once you get in check for the area that is listed as boot order. Make sure your CD rom boots before your HD and you should be good to go.

Well, your first proble is that you have a compaq. . .i have one and absolutly hate it, nothing but problems. I don't reccomend the quick restore CD. It works better if you have a copy of XP. Since you have lost the CD key, just go on kazaa or limewire, or emule and download one

ok, easiest way is to tap esc key on boot until a menu showing all your drives shows up, select cd rom and continue
if that doesnt work, access the bios with f1, go into your boot sequence and make sure cd rom is shown as the first drive, f10 saves the bios and exits
if you mess up something in your bios, go into the bios, hit f5 to reset to defaults, then f10 to save and exit

If resetting BIOS defaults doesn't work, you may have to clear CMOS. I'll get into that later.
A few things to take note:
- If you have 2 CD drives, make sure the recovery CD is in the TOP drive.
- If you actually plan on getting anywhere with the restore, make sure you're booting from the CD, and not letting Windows Autorun it. I just have to verify on this one, considering your name is Zach.
What's the model off this piece? Why do you need an XP serial number when a restore CD doesn't require it? Are you meaning the PC serial number?
Don't bother with tech support. You probably won't understand them.
