I could see the smoke from just outside of Port Hope and the closer I got to my job, the stronger the fire was.
Turns out Horizon plastics was on fire and that is one or 2 buildings down from my workplace so I have today off. The good news is no-one was hurt. The news on whether the plant will be rebuilt or not remains to be seen..
COBOURG, ONT. - A fire at a plastics plant in southern Ontario has forced several thousand people to leave their homes after officials declared a state of emergency.
The blaze continues to rage after breaking out in mid-afternoon at the Horizon Plastics factory in Cobourg, about 100 kilometres east of Toronto.

When the fire first erupted, dozens of local firefighters – many volunteers – were met by a ferocious funnel cloud of flame.
Even hours later, the blaze was described as out of control by scrambling emergency workers – who also faced the danger of battling a huge chemical fire in potentially toxic fumes.
"Plastics fires are not a good thing to be at," one firefighter told CBC News.
He added that as far as potential health hazards go, "it's probably the worst."
Cobourg Mayor Peter Delanty declared a state of emergency in early evening. A few thousand people were told to leave their homes, many going to friends or emergency shelters.
Nearby businesses and most schools were also forced to close, and a food bank may discard its supplies, fearing contamination.
The blaze's intense temperature kept firefighters – some from fire services a hundred kilometres away – from fully battling the inferno.
Power and gas services were disrupted.
Police said all workers made it out of the factory and there were no reports of injuries.
Officials aren't yet clear how the fire began in a storeroom of the large factory – the second-largest employer in the city.
The plant manufactures products ranging from children's toys to building supplies, and employs about 200 people.

I saw it on CP24 when I was at the gym. Pretty wild. My old buddy used to work there years ago.
I like how the one Cobourg firefighter said "Plastics fires are not a good thing to be at,". Yeah, unlike other massive fires which are completely safe there pal.
The Cobourg mayor Peter Delanty is a moron as well. He was my highschool principal. Delanty would call a state of emergency if he lost his tupee.
Anyways, I have lots of friends in and around Cobourg so I'm happy everyone is safe and they evacuated as a precautionary measure.
