Calling all computer dorks. I have a problem.

OK. Most of the time I am pretty computer savy and can solve 95% of problems myself. However, I seem to have a problem here that I am completely stumped on.
I use Clone DVD and Any DVD to rip DVD's. Has worked like a charm since day one. Now all of a sudden if I try to rip a DVD using Clone DVD or even another program, (The other day I tried using DVD Squeeze to rip something) my computer locks up and must be rebooted. Sometimes I just get a plain old frozen screen. Yesterday I got bars across my screen and then a complete system freeze. I thought that maybe DVD Squeeze might suck so I uninstalled it and tried Clone again. Still froze. I had just installed another 512MB of memory into my computer. I took that out and tried it how the computer used to be. Still froze. I did a system restore to about a week ago when I am sure it was working. Still froze. It will usually rip about 20% into the DVD and then lock up.
Not sure what the hell the deal is but I am getting pissed off. I've installed several programs within the last couple of weeks. Not sure if they could be the culprit. I installed Style XP, and a couple other minor progs. I've uninstalled everything except Style XP and retried to rip with no luck. The player plays DVD's just fine. It just doesn't seem to want to rip. I would say that maybe the DVD-RW drive is bad. But it plays them just fine, it just won't rip. Getting really pissed off here. Anyone have any suggestions? I'd appreaciate it!

When you burn yuor dvd's do you have any (and i mean ANY) other programs running in the background? Norton/Virus programs, style xp(in the taskbar), msn, yahoo, anything. If so try closing them all and temporarily disabling norton so that the dvd program is the only one running, if you've already tried that, unfortunately I have no idea if your on later ask me and I'll send you DVD XPRESS if you don't already have it maybe the computer just decided it doesn't like the other programs your using.

Well, I have Norton and McAfee firewall running. And SpySubtract. But I've always had them running since day one. And this computer rips DVD's in a breeze. 2.8GHz processor, 1GB of RAM. This thing should have NO problem riping DVD's no matter what the case. It certainly shouldn't lock the entire computer up. Yeah I am puzzled.

I would defenetly give that a try... never know what the other programs could be doing to another program.
You could try going into your taks manager and stoping every process accept iexplorer and smtray then try your burn. Best way to find out if its another process bugging up your pc.
