Bad Beef Again?

WTH? Again?
Shouldn't these farmers be like paranoid about BSE?
OK, I'll admit I'm a city slicker and know diddly about cattle and feed, but really....... isn't this like the third case?
According to the news reports, this particular cow was born one year after the ban on animal feed, so the farmer was totally to blame. If not the farmer, then at least the people who buy and sell feed should be shot.
The government has assured the public (again) that the supply is safe. Not very convincing now.

You realize that there are far more deadly and more prevailent diseases that cattle can get. BSE is a bunch of crap that the media started. Read the reports and there is next to no chance that a human can be infected with the disease. They just made that link because the Jacobson-Crutchfied (SP) disease is closely related to BSE. It's city slickers that blow the whole thing out of proportion and start a world-wide pandamonium. Just think. There are more than three humans in Canada that have aids, which is proven to be a transmittable disease, yet there is no real panic about that. Three out of millions is a risk that I am willing to take to enjoy a nice big juicy piece of grade A canadian beef. *(end rant)*

Anyway, aside from what is true or not, the public's perception is what drives the market. Should the government try harder to get the media to report the facts, or is it some kind of a political thing with the US. The American public is not to blame either, as nobody south of the border is going hear from the media there that Canadian beef is safe.
The last time around, I was hoping for lower beef prices. Never happened. Maybe this time around the government will make sure the producers don't take advantage of the situation.
Also, knowing how sensitive the public is with BSE, what the heck was that farmer thinking? Could it be that Canadian farmers are too honest? Perhaps there are hundreds of American cases of BSE -- they're just good at hiding it. Shoot the damn thing!

The USA was also blamed for the Tsunami devastation (we didn’t warn people of a tidal event in a portion of the world that we can not monitor tidal events)
Don’t ignore the fact there is a feed issue, I don’t think the US would be dishonest on this but I do think the USDA could be overconfident (that cant happen here) I also could believe that testing for crazy cow is not what it should be in either of our countries.

All of the cases save one are from before 1997 when new testing went into place. That is 8 years ago. The one case supposedly is from after 1997, but we can let the inspectors figure it out before we jump to conclusions, it is possible that it was old feed that should have been destroyed.
Personally I have nothing against the U.S. beinig cautious. I would be too. But they should lift all their softwood tariffs etc. or we should stop sending them watter electricity and oil and see who is really in a position of bargaining power. Of course our spineless Liberals would never do that.

Its never as big a deal as the media hypes it to be, whether its mad cow, tsunami early warning, terrorism, or Barry Bonds, for crap sakes...but its their job, thats why they get paid the big bucks, right or wrong there are enough people in the nation/world, etc that take CNN or CBC or FOX news or CTV or Al Jazeera or what have you for truth that ratings=money, and fear/paranoia=ratings.
CNN should develop a Mad Cow Index with colour codes and stuff, that would be great.
