Attn Mechanics...need your help.

Alright so my car(1996 VW Golf 1.8L) died about 2 weeks ago and for some reason the engine isnt getting any spark, gets fuel but just no spark. So I figured the ignition coil was hooped, got a new one and tossed it in yesterday. Started up fine and all was good, even went for a quick spin around the block. Today I went to the garage to put everything else back together and then started the car up again, I was going to let it warm up since its been sitting for about 2 weeks.

The car ran for about 10mins then just stopped...turned the key and same thing engine turns but just wont fire and now that ignition coil appears to be toast. Anyone have any sort of idea what the hell the problem could be? There is no spark getting to the motor but yet when I put the second coil in started up and worked for abit, but then just suddenly died.

Any help would be great, thanks.

Thumbs up

get a simple multimeter and messure the resistance of the coil through all three points and also the pickup coils or possible crank or cam sensors in your case not too shure how they will have it all set up in those vehicles. you just need to get a hanes manual or the like that will have the specs on the resistaces that u should be able to read. if you also have an ignition modual u will be able to find a similar process for that piece as well. best to ya!
