Anyone ride dirtbike?
#1
I am concidering buyng a new dirtbike for next summer but am wondering if I should buy a 125 or a 250? I only weigh 150lbs, replies would be nice from people who ride dirtbikes themselves and have experience with one or both of the sizes mentioned.
thanks

I would suggest a 03 or 04 Honda CRF230F. I haven't read a bad review on it yet, but it is a play bike, do not plan on racing it as it is a tad on the heavy side cause of the electric start. But you could also swap in the kick start from a CRF150F.
If I didn't already have too many toys, this bike would already be in my garage. I'm around 5'5", so a 250 2 stroke is not really practical for me. I could ride it, but as far as touching the ground when I stop, ain't happenin. Plus, I've always liked 4 stroke over 2.

ok thanks, I'm not a new rider... but i have only driven 80cc's before and never got back into it too much now a days. I'm just wondering is the 125 gonna fullfill my need for speed and the power i need as well?
I'm gonna be using it for offroad use obviously, some jumps nuthin huge and bush riding as well. No offence but I would never buy a 4 stroke unless it was an induro, i just dont like them that much... plus the 2 stroke sounds better IMO!
The thing is that, me and my uncle are both getting new bikes, he is getting a new 250 for sure so thats why im wondering. I will need to keep up with him, but never driven or had any experience with a 125 so thought maybe going with the 250 as well.
oh yeah, definately 2004 and definately cr
thanks

Ive nationaly raced motocross for 3 years. couple years ago.
125 is a slightly taller bike and have generally more zing.
A 250 will have more top end.
It's all really in the price you can get em for.
I wouldnt knock on 4 strokes for too long.
In 2-3 years every company will no longer be building them due to enviromental issues. They will be building new lines of high end 4bangers.
Some companies allready are. Such as Yamaha. They've been doin it for years.
And actually, the yamaha 400f(4banger) has been winning quite a bit of races.

ok i made a mistake, i weigh 160lbs on the dot! I was reading on the honda website and it says that the 125 and the 250 are only about 20lbs apart in dry weight and my main concern was luggin it outta the mud when i get stuck, the price is as follows for '03 models brand new.
cr250r - $6,500.00
cr125r - $6,000.00
not much difference in price, just wondering which will be best suited for me!
I thought 160lbs would be a lil on the heavy side for a 125?
I'm going to see if i can test them both and go by that i guess!
thanks

No man, an CR80 can haul 160.
125 will have no problem at all.
I duno about mud boggin on a dirt bike but if u get stuck all u gotta do it walk/push it and give it some gas in 1st to help you out and its out fairly easy.
If u get stuck hlf way up a hill(possibly the worst place to get stuck) either go back down or do the walk/gas thing.
