Is this a good overall LCD monitor?
Samsung 920T-Silver

And what do I need for a computer to run really fast and smooth for lots of programs. From basic illustrators, to 3D rendering programs to video production.

Any info/tips/advice for building a killer graphics computer would be great!

Lots of Ram, good cpu and motherboard. Make sure its all reliable, hardware can go bad its sometimes unavoidable.

To run rendering programs you need it to run smoothly IMO to avoid any errors and such.

Of coures a wicked video card helps as well.

The monitor looks like a good one to me, those types of monitors come in handy for desk space thats for sure

www.pcworld.com helps a lot, my dad subscribes to this magazine, I read it when I'm at home.

http://www.pcworld.com/reviews/index/0,00.asp try that link for a start if it works correctly it'll be a link to all the reviews top 10's top 15's and such.

Hope some of this helps, I was in those shoes 2 years ago when I was going to go into Video Editing for College.

Thanks for those links! They're really helpful for sure! It kind of sucks not knowing anything about how a computer works or what's what. I only know how to use them

What exactly do you wanna know? Those magazines are sold in stores if you ever wanna pick one up even one would help you out. Are you looking to have one built piece by piece, or simply go out and purchase a system thats already completed? And what kind of work are you going to use it for exactly?

Big ram...512+ if money allows.

A gig of ram would be sick but that's not cheap.

decent sized processor obviously will be needed....2gig+ is great for just about any game right now.....runs without much trouble.

Big vid card....for games like Everquest,Battle Field Vietnam etc....big cards are a MUST....but again pretty expensive....ATi is probably the best bet though...something like a Radeon 9800 256Mb card can cost over 400 bucks which sorta sucks.

Oh yea, don't forget the custom liquid nitrogen cooling system for all that stuff

my video card is an NVIDIA GeForce FX 5600 and I absolutely love it! More info specifically on it can be found here http://www.nvidia.com/page/fx_5600.html

Make sure if you got a big CPU (Processor) to have a great cooling system that'll keep it cool

If your doing video rendoring and all that fun stuff your going to need a pretty amazing system. Depends how much into your going to get.

I would get Dual CPU's maybe like Dual AMD 64 2.8's with 1 gig of memory atleast. Your also going to need fast harddrives so I would get some SCSI's or a sata Raptor. A really good vid card like a Nvidia 6600 GT or a 6800 ultra.

LCD's aren't so good yet because of their slow response times. If the monitor has liess then a 15 ms response time then it should be good enough.

Now what I mentioned up there is for extreme video editing and stuff like that.

If ur not as serious I would get like a 3200 1 gb of ram, sata hard drive, 6600 GT or x700.

Make sure the lcd has high refresh rates, for video editing the lcd maybe suffice but not quite up to par of CRT yet, you make get ghosting I noticed when I play Tiger woods 2005 you can see like a choppy line in 2 area's where it's trying to refresh quicker and can't due to the lcd's limitations.

Oh yeah, them 1meg cache cpus' are actually benchmarking slower then the 512 cache cpu's due to the programs not programmed to use it it some apps they where abit faster but nothing worth spending the $$$ on yet...
