$600 expert wiring job
This is a 1959 190SL we've been working on at the Benz Barn... The car is from Ottawa and came to us for an engine rebuild; there were broken rings which turned one of the pistons into swiss cheese and scored up the cylnder wall....
The owner bought the car and paid TOP dollar for a paint job which was totally substandard... it's the wrong color... where the body panels turn underneith the car, are unfinished.. dry areas in the clear, and tiger stripping in the base.. our body shop did some touch up and says it's been painted over several times... (no strip!) ... not to mention they sprayed undercoating over EVERYTHING under the hood without taping off wiring, subframe, ect..
The brake system was screwed up from one end to the other... owner sent the booster off somewhere to be rebuilt... parts were put in backwords, wrong parts were substituded, and worn out seals were put back in.... a local shop to Ottawa installed new shoes which were also installed incorrectly with parts put in backwords and bolts missing...
the car had been in a front end collision and had previous badly done bodywork... rusted out areas underneith that were never properly repaired.. missing sections underneith the rockers that were cut out and never replaced... and some awfull fiberglass matt patches put over rust holes inside the car....
The list goes on, generator was rebuilt but whoever did it put the old brushes back in... which failed.... the solenoid on the starter is sticking... ect, ect...
Anyway.. we fixed all of the above and other countless problems... engine was machined by Answer Engines in London and the rebuild went smooth and it runs awsome...put in new carpet, new windshield, got some chrome redone... ect...
Here is the car audio end... the owner claims the old Blaupunkt radio (with external amplifier) was working when he sent it to us; and that he paid a car audio wiring expert $600 to hook it up....
Well, it wasn't working, so I get under the dash.. the power wire and remote turn on are the same wire, which has been cut and patched.... and is only getting 6.7 volts... looks like the wire off the ignition was cut, and the $600 expert tapped into the cig lighter with a cut, twist, and wire nut.. then hooked the mono speaker back up with a couple crimps...
Well, the radio works now that I fixed it...

wOW, $600.00 for that, I would have done that install for no more than $500.00
