Yet another PXA H700 Question
#21
Well, Dave MacKinnon came through and replied to my pm. He told me the Clarion uses a proprietary SPDif connection.
On another board, I was told it is not that difficult to disassemble and replace one end of a Clarion cable with a universal Toslink connector. I did get me a PXA H700. I will run it via RCA out for now.

Holy cats! This thing is awesome. It's only hooked up via RCA for now, but man, it's sweet. Never mind the 24 bit k grade Burr Brown or the time alignment features, the Xovers alone on this processor are worth it. I had forgotten how useful it is to be able to overlap and separate <for lack of better word> the slopes. Being able to choose between 6/12/18/24/30 db per octave on every channel is awesome, too. I really like the two front pair / rear pair / sub / center-sub capabilities as well. The el cheapo and crapola no-name mids in the doors of my Civic sound like they're worth ten times as much and the Morel components in the kick panels just sing. I haven't touched the time alignment or the EQ and parametric bands yet and it's ........ I'm so happy right now. Well, not really, 'cause I think I need to soundproof (deaden) the entire car. The dynamics in the car are unbelievable. Imaging is a bit off and it is a little too bassy for my liking. I'm going to have to spend the next ten years tweaking this thing. There's so much you can do with it.
OK, I did not change anything in my system during the swap, so it looks like I've found the weakest link. Damn... I should shutup 'cause I have to try to sell that other piece.
I am so glad I am not into the competition thing anymore. I can experiment to my hearts content and not have to worry about the perfect install or getting the car ready for the next event, or kissing some judge's ***, or........... I've never had so much fun!

ahhhh, yet another satisfied pxa owner, you have just begun to have fun with that piece, wait till you start to have fun with the phase and t/a part. as well i have modified the clarion digital cable before and its not that hard but it wont "clip in" and sit in the toslink socket, you will have to make sonething to get it to stay. having virtually unlimitted control can be fun and good for self learning
