if you read my last post dave you will see that i said "go alpine all the way" i know you love the alpine peice and i love the audio control peice. lets be honest; the small differences in the units is not going to be the deciding factor on who wins or loses. it will in essence come down to install and proper acoustic design. man i suck at spelling!!!

Interesting...........

I phoned the dealer (shall remain anonymous) where I bought my Clarion deck from and asked them about the PXA H700 - if it was compatible with the Clarion and what not. BTW, these guys sell Alpine, as well as, Clarion and other big name brands. Anyway, the guy was not very well versed in any of the stuff he sold. To his credit though, instead of BSing his way through it all, he told me he would call the reps and get their opinions on the compatibility issue. To keep a long story short, the dealer called me back and told me that the reps told him the two systems are not compatible. He also said a whole bunch of weird stuff that didn't make any sense, which led me to believe he didn't call the reps at all. After hearing it was not compatible, I phoned another reputable dealer here in the Lower Mainland. Their knowledge about Alpine products was no better. "What model number was that again?" ..... "What does it do, exactly?" "Oh, we know our stuff (Alpine)!" This is not to say all dealers are doh heads. Brian, over at Audiolines, for example, is very knowledgeable. I have been PMing defro, Tim Baillie, DUKK, and others for help and suggestions. All of them are very knowledgeable and helpful. I have been out of touch with car audio for quite some time now and need to catch up with the digital stuff. And, it's good to see that, for the most part, this board has provided me with a place to start the learning process. For that I am very greatful. The funny stuff in here also offers great, free entertainment. Can't get enough of the beat up on "the Lumina_Guy" posts. Gotta hand it to him....... takes a lickin, but keeps on tickin. If anyone here knows for sure if the Clarion deck I have (VRX935VD) is Toslink digital or not, please let me know. The PXA H701/700 is Toslink.

Thanks in advance.

addendum:

I understand that stuff like the PXA H700 is not your run of the mill piece, but shouldn't sales people be trained or at least have some kind of knowledge of the entire product line? I guess this is what separates the good shops from the "wham, bam, thank you mam" shops.

This post was edited........... it served no purpose other than vent, rant, and rave.

It spawned from frustration.
