Wiring subs and amp... Don't want to fry the sub this time

I have an amp thats rated for 1000RMS at 2 ohm and 2 dual voice coil subs, each coil is 2 ohm. So I was told that each sub(pair of 2ohm coils) will make 4 ohms and since theres two subs I can wire that back down to 2ohm for my 1000RMS. I have the manual for the subs but I'd like a basic breakdown with another diagram if possible on how to wire the subs this way. I fried my type X because of a crossed wire... I think. Any help would be appreciated

2ohm 1000RMS amp

2 dual voice coil subs, each coil 2 ohms.

Need to wire entire system to 2 ohms
