Wiring a sub box?

What is the best way to run wiring into a sealed box?

Drill a hole and run the wire through it?
Drill 2 holes, split the wiring?
Buy an premade connector and mount it on the side?

My thinking is to split the wire and drill 2 smaller holes and then seal them with silicone. Less chance for air to escape with 2 tight fitting wires.

Am I way off here?

Any method works fine although I do the binding posts for boxes that may be coming out frequently.
My favorite is to put a couple of bolts through the box that have about six or seven threads outside the box and bolt the speaker wires down.

either method would work well GP, i wouldn't use the terminal box unless it was fabed into the box (aka premade) even then i'd probably take it out.
Drilling two holes sounds like a good idea to me though...less chance for air, although splitting wire isn't the most fun afternoon sport...lol...

are you going to use any sound deadening in the trunk?

I agree with Dereck. I used to buy raw binding posts and mount them through the wood but a machine bolt works just as well for 1/100th the cost. [img]graemlins/thumb.gif[/img]

So you attach the speaker wire from the sub to the head of the bolt inside the box and then attach the wires from the amp to the end of the bolts on the outside of the box? Does this affect the SQ of the system?

Yeah, I put a ring terminal on the wire(s) from the sub, put it over the bolt, put the bolt through the hole, put a nut on the end, put the wire from the amp (with a ring terminal) on, then another nut. You can use lock washers too for extra security.
