Subwoofer wiring

Subwoofer wiring
Okay so i have a quick question about my set-up. I have 2 4 ohm subwoofers and a 2 channel amp bridged at 4 ohms because the woofer box has 1 set of wire recievers. is this a less than ideal configuration? if so what can i do?

If you have 2 x 4Ohm subs you do NOT have your amp bridged at 4 Ohms. It's just not possible. (unless one sub isn't hooked up)
Your options are either 2Ohms or 8 Ohms.
You will want to double check that setup

Then i'm not really sure whats going on because the amp is bridged and everything i read about it says the bridged resistance is 4 ohms. the subs are wired in series if that makes the situation more possible.

my understanding is that it looks like that.

If your subs are 4 ohm single voice coil wired in a series, you are running at 8ohms.
However, if they are 4 ohm dual voice coil wired in a series, you have a final load of 4ohms.
The amp may be stable at 4ohms, however, it will be running based on how your subs are wired.

Your right it isn't. I was thinking of perhaps getting another set of terminals wiring each sub serparately. I dont know what difference it would make so i'll give u a rundown of what the amp can put out(in RMS of course). Possible options are 150 watts x 2 or 460 watts x 1 into 4 ohms and 230 watts x2 into 2 ohms.

I'm just learning this all myself. Technically you could run a sub on each channel with 150watts @ 4ohms.
You are currently running at 8ohms so I am not sure what the formula is to get an estimate of the power running currently. I could guesstimate and say ~230w @ 8 ohms. Also keep in mind that the amp may not be stable at 8ohms. :P

It sounds like you have one of the large 2 channel Kenwood amps from a couple years ago.....that amp will give you the most power it can without risking burning it up if you wire one sub to each channel @ 150W each.
If you want to live dangerous you could wire them up parallel and bridge the amp.....it will do over the 460W it's rated for at 4ohms mono but and I do mean but you will have to be very careful with the gain and the volume control. I would also suggest you find yourself a fan and keep it blowing across that amp while you are running it.
Personally I would use that amp to run a good set of comps in your front doors and find a 2ohm mono stable amp that does around 500W or so......a nicely balanced system is a joy to the ears.....
