subwoofer is very quiet... help troubleshoot

Hey guys,

I am helping my friend with an install on his 2005 Nissan 350Z.

The gear is as follows:

12" Elevation Audio SQX 750w rms
500.1 Kaption Amplifier
JVC Touch Screen DVD deck
8 gauge wiring kit

Okay so the problem is the subwoofer is very quiet, almost zero output. I have everything wired up good I believe, but I am stumped.
I have the sub wired to 2 ohms so the amp should be putting out 400 watts rms.

I have gone through all the deck settings I could but nothing will increase the subwoofers output. I moved the amplifier into a different vehicle and it works just fine, nice and loud, but the minute it goes into the 350Z it is quiet. I am thinking it has to be something with the deck. Tomorrow I am going to bring a aux to rca cable to test the amp with an ipod.

Suggestions, recommendations, any thing to try please I just need to get my buddys setup going.

Thanks

Did you wire the DVC's in series by accident, which would give you an impedance of 8 ohms?

From what I read it's a 4ohm DVC. Make sure they're wired in parallel to run @ 2 ohms.

Also, looking at the specs of your amp, I think 8 gauge might be to small. Can anybody chime in on this?

Check to insure that the sub out on the JVC isn't turned down or the Xover slope set real low.

The sub is wired for 2 ohms. For this amp since it's only putting out 400 watts at 2 ohms 8 gauge should be just sufficient.

The subwoofer output was set to max, Then I also tried plugging it into the rear output with the same results.

I need some more things to try, thanks guys!

Maybe try as you said using an ipod on the RCA. Maybe there is a bad wire in the RCA.
