Sub install help
Hi,
I currently have an Alpine MRP-M650 amp and I just bought an Alpine Type R to replace my blown one but the new one is 2ohms and the old one is 4 ohms. Both are dual voice coils so I was wondering if I could still hook up my new one and how would I do it or do I need to get one that is 4 ohms?
Thanks

when in doubt...

or in your case since that alpine is not 1 ohm stable, wire to 4 ohm

Great!!! Thanks. So would this essentially be the same as running a dual 4 ohm in parallel?(the second picture) or no...that would have a 2 ohm load right? Is there a way to make a DVC 2 ohm sub see a 2 ohm load? My amp does 600rms at 2 ohms and 400rms at 4 ohms so I want to get the most out of it. Please correct me if I'm wrong because I am new at this.

2ohm final load will get the most out of your amplifier but for now if you cant exchange the sub like dukk said then running it at 4 ohms will be fine.
unless you get another dual 2 ohm sub you will not be able to make 2 ohm final load.

Don't forget; that would be 2 woofers sharing 600W, resulting in each woofer seeing only 300w instead fo the single sub seeing 400w. Just food for thought. I recognize the increased cone area would likely overcome that issue, but many of us who run a single woofer have space constraints to begin with, so there's another factor.
